Lasagna Love

I think y’all know by now that I love cooking for my family. As my boys have gotten older, I’ve found we no longer connect over Thomas the Train, making bubble solutions in the driveway or playing Mario in the basement. Instead, we gather around our table for meals. Both are apt to help in the kitchen and there is honestly nothing I love more than making a home for these two kids. A warm, inviting, comforting, safe, happy home. For us, food is part of that.

When I read about Lasagna Love early this year, I immediately signed up. I make a lasagna meal once a month that helps out a family, gathers them around a table, and fills their bellies with goodness. It brings me immeasurable happiness to provide a home cooked meal to someone else. Each and every one is made with love right in my kitchen. I always add a Caesar salad bag and simple dessert (usually brownies). Drop off is contactless, but on occasion I have met the recipient in a public place for the hand off.

On my Lasagna Love day, I also prepare the same for my family. They are always full of questions… how many people did you cook for? Did you meet them or just drop off? Did they text you to say if they liked it? And, of course, harder more personal questions too.

Lasagna Love was started at the beginning of the pandemic when the founder of Good to Mama was looking for a way to help moms in her community. She and her toddler started making and delivering meals to families in the neighborhood who were struggling, whether that struggle was financial, emotional, or simply a feeling of overwhelm.

Lasagna Love has since grown into a national movement, with thousands of people all cooking and delivering meals to families in their communities. What we do is simple: feed families, spread kindness, and strengthen communities. Our mission is not only to help address the incredible rise in food insecurity among families but also to provide a simple act of love and kindness during a time full of uncertainty and stress.

You can learn more or request a meal here. Kindness is for everyone. No matter the reason for the need, your community wants to help. A neighbor will deliver a home-cooked lasagna or main dish to your family one night.

If you’d like to sign up to volunteer in your area, you can do that here.

It feels good to spread love.

  1. I have been signed up as a chef for LasagnaLove for 4 months now and I love knowing that anyone (single mom, family with medical issues, stressed out mom of multiples, elderly couple, etc) can all receive a delicious lasagna with no questions asked and no info shared other than name and address and phone #. I also add a salad, garlic bread and I make my fav box cake mix with homemade chocolate frosting…..I hope more of your followers read about this and sign up. It’s amazing how fast this organization has grown and all because one mom decided to make a difference…..

  2. THANK YOU for sharing this great idea! I’ve got boys close in age to yours and think this would be something nice for us to do together, LOVE THIS!

  3. This is the first I am hearing of this movement and I am going to sign up. Every time I make lasagna, I make a pan for my parents and my sister’s family. I also usually throw another one in for some other friend or relative, because lasagna is such a big thing to make at my house, that I feel like I should make a bunch when I put in the energy to spend all day making that sauce.
I like to make a garlic cheesy bread with frozen dinner rolls. I buy the Rhodes brand, thaw them a bit, cut each dough ball in half, roll it in melted butter mixed with garlic powder, parsley, and parmesan cheese. Put three (halved) dough balls into greased muffin tins, bake til golden at 350. Yum. These also freeze well after being baked.

  4. I had not heard of this. What a neat and special idea! I love this for my own family and as a culinary teacher for high school students, this would be a great lesson for them-cook and care for others in need. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I love this and so wish we had this in our community- we are up in Rome, GA. I also love that it also teaches your own boys about giving back and creates organic discussions around the subject. I have one son who is a junior in college and one a HS senior who is currently writing essays for college applications. My heart swells when I hear/see them use terms that we have used in our home when talking about others’ lived experiences and how they can be of assistance. Good job mama!!

  6. Thanks for sharing this! I signed up as soon as I read about it and made my first delivery right here in Marietta today!
