Breakfast at the Bar Harbor Inn

We started the day with a hearty American breakfast and the most beautiful views in the Reading Room restaurant. I had crab cakes and the boys had lobster benedict. Everyone was a happy, happy human.

Acadia National Park Excursion with Local Guide

On this excursion, we delighted in the epic scenic splendor that abounds throughout the 47,000 acres that make up Acadia National Park. We were joined by a local guide who brought the park to life with stories and history of the area of diverse landscapes ranging from woodland, rocky beaches and glacier-scoured granite peaks. Along the way, we stopped off at popular natural attractions that include: Sand Beach, Jordan Pond and Thunder Hole. Plus, we visited the top of Cadillac Mountain—the highest peak in the park at 1,530 ft.— which offers unparalleled views of New England’s rugged coast. We absolutely loved Acadia National Park and all agree that only Glacier Bay beats it on our list of National Parks and National Historic Sites. It was incredible to climb and explore nature, rather than just looking at it from a distance or a boardwalk.

Lunch at Jordan Pond House

Lunch was inside Acadia National Park at Jordan Pond House. We absolutely LOVED this historic spot, with amazing views of the pond, surrounded by forests and backdropped by mountains. The house specialty – Popovers – were a huge hit with the W Family! They’ve been served here since 1895!

Cruise the Bar Harbor Coastline

This afternoon, we were scheduled to kayak out into Frenchman Bay but winds cancelled that. Our guides were able to set up a nature, history and sightseeing cruise which – I must admit – we immensely enjoyed! The boys were sad about kayaking for a few minutes, but I think we got to see and enjoy so much more on our boat tour. We saw porpoises and harbor seals and bald eagles, sipped on our beverages and soaked up the sun.

Bar Harbor Inn Relaxation

Having explored the town yesterday, we used our free time this afternoon to relax at the stunning Bar Harbor Inn. We read books at the pool before Honey and I headed down for a happy hour drink.

New England Clam & Lobster Bake Farewell Dinner at Bar Harbor Inn

Last but certainly not least, this magnificent day ended with our fellow Adventurers and Adventure Guides at a farewell dinner at the Bar Harbor Inn. We savored a classic New England Clam & Lobster Bake in a spectacular setting overlooking Frenchman Bay. It was, truly, picture perfect.

Maine stole a little piece of our heart. Bar Harbor and Acadia were spectacular. This was the trip of a lifetime!

  1. I knew you were going to love the beauty of Bar Harbor and Arcadia Natl Park! Seeing your pics brought back many wonderful memories when we took a Canada/New England cruise on Norwegian which is still one of my favorite cruises to date. I love lighthouses so I was really in seventh heaven being in Maine/New England. I hope you will be able to do the Disney South Africia/Egypt trip in the future. My brother is going to South Africia in September and staying on a game preserve.

    1. We’d love to do South Africa! John is already talking about a graduation trip, but he’s more of a city boy. Whit would love to see all the animals!
