The Patriotic Pool

The last part of my July mini tour is the pool area! We love it so, so much and rarely a day goes by when we are in town that there isn’t a crew back here enjoying it. Sit back, relax and stay awhile….

We didn’t add much outside of a bunch of flags to dress up the backyard for the fourth! Our neighborhood does a huge fireworks display and we can’t wait to welcome friends here in celebration this weekend.

A little paver path leads from the driveway to the “courtyard” area of the pool. We went with turf here and it was the BEST decision we made through the whole process. Here is the first look when coming in the gate.

Like with other holidays, I tried to choose festive but useful decorative items. Red and white striped towels make a statement, but are also necessary items! I’ve put flags in my pots for decades and continue that tradition back here.

This is a multi-use space. We’ve had dinners, parties, prayer meetings and just good old fashioned ping pong and dice games here. I realized that I never shared the details on where we landed with the ping pong table – I made a note to dig up those details and post it soon. The large flag here is hung with 3 small white screw hooks. Honey put them up last summer and they are virtually unnoticeable the rest of the year.

The cabana is a favorite shady relaxation spot. It makes for great privacy from the street and serves as a fence on that side. It lines up with one side of the courtyard and is centered on the pool. I purchased the six small patriotic buntings to go across the front of the cabana last year. They are perfect in that they don’t hang so low that they block any views. They are hung with command hooks and then secured with short lengths of pipe cleaners. Otherwise, the wind knocks them loose. We left the command hooks up and just had to add the flags this year.

In addition to the buntings, I pulled a few pillows from my collection for the cabana. They were previously located in other places for the fourth but found new homes here. I fell in love with the details and colors on this Georgia pillow and thought it was perfect to move outdoors with my patriotic decor.

I’ve used the buntings on the porch railings since we moved in! They go up on permanent hooks that I also use at Christmas for garlands.

We added two egg chairs in February, and relocated all six lounge chairs to this side of the porch to make room for them.

Speaking of the egg chairs, they are SO comfy. They were my Valentine’s Day gift from Honey. They are the Better Homes and Garden brand from WalMart and a fraction of the price of a similar chair at Serena and Lily or Target. I do carry in the big cushions when we won’t be using the pool. They take forever to dry if they get drenched. I tried hard to NOT have cushions that had to be moved around all the time, but these are so comfy for reading and lounging that they are worth it.

Last summer I found these cute patriotic floats on sale. Again, patriotic decor that is useful!

I missed swimming the entire season last year with my MRSA infection. I have made up for lost time already. Most afternoons you’ll find me reading in the chair under the umbrella and most evenings on a float with the family. I was very hesitant to agree to this pool, but am so thankful Honey wouldn’t let the idea go!
