Magical Monday {AbracadaBar at Disney’s Boardwalk}

UPDATED REVIEW SEPTEMBER 2020 HERE

I’ve been itching to try AbracadaBar, located on Walt Disney World’s Boardwalk, so it was the obvious choice to start our Disney date night while staying just around the corner at the Beach Club Resort!

We were so excited to head inside.  The theming starts at the door!

Travel back in time to the golden age of magic as you step inside this curious cocktail lounge.  Formerly the stomping grounds for famous magicians, local illusionists and the loveliest of magician’s assistants, AbracadaBar gives interested onlookers and aficionados of alcoholic beverages alike a glimpse—and perhaps a taste—of another time and place.

According to boardwalk lore, prestidigitators would gather here after nearly every show, often staying up all night as they attempted to out-charm each other with extraordinary tricks before gathering at the bar to conjure up new cocktails.  But then, just as soon as it had appeared, the secret lounge vanished into thin air, never to be seen again… until today!

The Special Edition of The Boardwalk Bugle hanging on the wall of AbracadaBar tells the story of the mysterious night in 1940 when this strange happening occurred.

The lounge is tiny, but you can easily lose track of time exploring every nook and cranny filled with the props and memorabilia of the magicians and illusionists that once frequented the establishment.

The drink menu is enchanting and unique, unlike the standard bar menu found around most of the rest of the resort.  You will find a selection of Enchanting Elixirs, Curious Concoctions, Worldly Wines and Baffling Beers.

I tried Pepper’s Ghost, a mix of Ciroc Pineapple Vodka and Habanero Lime.  It was interesting and delicious.  Honey ordered the Parlor Trick -composed of Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon, simple syrup, and a splash of soda water – and also enjoyed it.

We played cards and talked and enjoyed our cocktails and the “magical” environment.

We also made time to explore all of the fascinating details tucked in every corner.  The wallpaper and cards with hidden Mickey’s were favorites…

… as well as the bookshelves brimming with a collection of books, tricks, props and curiosities.  On the bottom shelf here you will see a photo of Walt. And, I know it is hard to see, the two drawers on the bottom say “bedknobs” and “broomsticks”.

Even the bathrooms are worth a visit.  A subway style tile notes the way to the stage.  And, if you listen closely, you just might be able to hear the lingering sounds of a magician’s show and applause near the Stage Door.

We thoroughly enjoyed starting our night here.  It is small inside and, while children are welcome, it was quiet and dark and had a very adult atmosphere.  There are really only drinks and some light snacks so I wouldn’t recommend trying to make a whole night of this lounge.  Visiting AbracadaBar should definitely make your list when staying anywhere in the Boardwalk area – Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk Inn, Swan and Dolphin.  Next week, I’ll share a review of our dinner that followed!

  1. This place sounds like so much fun – LOVE that you make time for date nights on trips! xo

  2. Looks like a blast! We are staying at Beach Club in a couple of weeks. We have a Yachtsmen dinner date scheduled one evening and Abracadabra looks great. Quick question, we are upgrading to Annual Passes at this trip, are pass holders able to book Bounce Back trips? Also, are we able to turn the Bounce Back trip over to you as a travel agent? Thank you for all of your tips!

    1. I haven’t seen a bounce back offer lately, but I’d guess it depends on what is being offered. If it is a package including tickets, then no. If it is a room only bounceback then absolutely yes!! If you get it one booked I am happy to see if it could be transferred to me :-) You are sweet to ask!

      1. Thank you! I’d love to pass it over to you, I just adore your blog and get so much out of it. So cool to see you doing something you love for your business.
