Donald’s Dining Safari at Tusker House Restaurant

I absolutely love the variety of dining options in Animal Kingdom.  After Epcot, it is my very favorite park for eating.  We’ve dined at Tusker House previously, but I thought it was worth revisiting as it is my number one choice for table service in Animal Kingdom.

Tucked back in Harambe Village, I love the atmosphere inside.  The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it is not too terribly hard to score a table.

I personally think it is one of the best buffet breakfasts on property and I also LOVE lunch and dinner.  All have a wide variety of options, many with African influences.  Of course, there is traditional fare for the less adventurous eaters in your party (the mac and cheese was amazing).  I could eat plates of salads for every meal of the day and be happy!!

In addition to great food, it is a fantastic way to knock out some characters.  As the mom of boys, I also appreciate having a fun character meal that isn’t princess focused.  The man of the hour came by our table multiple times during our meal!

You’ll also see Goofy, Daisy and Mickey here in their safari get-ups.

If you go:

  • Advance reservations are highly recommended at 180 days out
  • Tusker House is just one table service credit on the Disney Dining Plan and Deluxe Disney Dining Plan; If you are doing  character meals or buffets, the dining plan IS worth the cost in my opinion
  • Tusker House also has a Rivers of Light dining package that gives you reserved seats to the nighttime show; I definitely think this is a good value but is harder to get than just a regular reservation
  • Go early and enjoy a cocktail nearby at Dawa Bar; They have my favorite Bloody Mary’s

I wrote a whole post a couple of months ago about the beauty of Animal Kingdom.  I said that I could walk the paths, bridges and lands a thousand more times and likely not notice all of the incredible details.  So, take a peek at a few more gorgeous details I noted on our last trip…

(Not a gorgeous pic, but I had to include because Whit was SO happy he got to play!)

One of my favorite Disney pictures ever… Expedition Everest behind the Rivers of Light theater at dusk

A secluded dining nook behind Tamu Tamu

A gate in Harambe

See what I mean??  Everything is just so pretty!!  And now that the park stays open past dark on most nights, it is even more beautiful at dusk.

If you’re curious, my favorite quick serve is Satu’li Canteen.  I also love the mac and cheese at Eight Spoon Cafe and open faced sandwiches at the Smiling Crocodile (both are food carts).  For cocktails I love the Bloody Mary at Dawa Bar.  For cocktails and appetizers, I adore pretty much everything on the menu at Nomad Lounge.

Now I am STARVING thinking about all of this good food…

  1. Shhhh!!!! Don’t spoil the secret of Tusker House!! It’s the best, and I love that I can fairly easily get an ADR there. I don’t want the word to get out! ?
