Disney Parks Updates from Destination D Event

When Walt Disney opened Disneyland, he said the following…

Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.

… and it is so true.  The Disney Parks around the world are always changing, innovating, moving forward.  Sometimes we must bid farewell to a childhood classic (Mr. Toad over here, sniff sniff) but many times we get incredible new experiences!  I have been gobbling up the news coming out of today’s Destination D conference and am excited to share a few fun tidbits.

New Mickey Mouse Experiences

Enjoy the New “Wonderful World of Animation” Nighttime Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios® – An all-new cinematic nighttime experience, “Wonderful World of Animation,” will debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in May 2019 as part of the park’s 30th Anniversary celebration. The show will use state-of-the-art projection technology to take guests on a magical journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation, all beginning with Mickey himself.

Experience Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Imagineers have been hard at work creating Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, using breakthrough technology to transform a two-dimensional cartoon into an amazing real-world experience. The first-ever ride-through attraction themed to Mickey Mouse will feature a new original story and lovable theme song as it takes guests on a journey inside the wacky and unpredictable world of Disney Channel’s Emmy Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts.

New Mickey Mouse Offerings at Disneyland® Park – The festivities will continue at the Disneyland Resort with Get Your Ears On: A Mickey and Minnie Celebration, which will feature new entertainment, food and merchandise. On Jan. 18, 2019,  “Mickey’s Mix Magic” will light up the night at Disneyland Park with all-new music, projections and lasers that set the scene for an epic dance party that takes over almost the entire park. The party will get even bigger when the fan-favorite Mickey’s Soundsational Parade returns to the resort in January 2019 featuring a new float with Mickey himself, who will lead the celebration down Main Street, U.S.A.

Join in on the Fun of Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration at Magic Kingdom Park – From Jan. 18 to Sept. 30, 2019, Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration will feature new food, merchandise and entertainment, including a new dance party with Mickey, Minnie and their friends.

Celebrate Your Favorite Mouse with Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Party at Sea Aboard Disney Cruise Line – Guests will enjoy an all-new high-energy deck party on the Disney Fantasy next summer.

New Nighttime Spectaculars & ‘Beauty & The Beast’ Sing-Along Announced for Epcot

A new nighttime spectacular is planned to open at Epcot in 2020. This new show will celebrate how Disney music inspires people around the world, and will feature massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and lasers.  But before that new show debuts, there will be a limited-time experience Epcot fans will love, called “Epcot Forever,” which will debut in fall 2019 and will feature classic Epcot tunes. “Epcot Forever” will begin with a spark of imagination that swells into an epic spectacle of fireworks, music, lighting, lasers, and special effects kites.

At the France pavilion at World Showcase, a brand new “Beauty and the Beast” sing-along created by Don Hahn, producer of the animated and live-action “Beauty and the Beast” films will debut (in addition to “Impressions de France”).  Leaders also announced the name of the “Ratatouille” experience coming to the France pavilion, which will be called Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

The Canada pavilion is also in the process of updating the existing O Canada! 360-degree show!

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge News

Attendees were treated to two videos, which for the first time ever, revealed the names of the two major attractions that will be part of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on opening day at Disneyland® Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios®.

The first, entitled Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, puts you behind the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy in one of three unique flight crew roles.

The second attraction, which puts you in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order, is called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. As you can see from this video, which was shot in the actual attraction, both the stakes, and the excitement are running high in this epic Star Wars cliffhanger!

These two new incredible experiences – paired with the land’s dynamic elements and optional interactive integration with the Play Disney Parks app – invite guests to become galactic travelers and live their own Star Wars stories in a galaxy far, far away.

And there’s so much more to do at this exotic outpost. For example, you can visit a street market in Black Spire Outpost, shop at food stalls where you can enjoy delicacies like blue milk, or visit the Cantina where you can see an old friend Rex, as well as encounter creatures and characters that are hallmarks of the Star Wars universe. Guests from across the galaxy can experience this new larger-than-life land at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort beginning in 2019.

Adding to the galactic excitement, Disney shared new details about the currently in-development Star Wars resort coming to Walt Disney World Resort. This groundbreaking experience is unlike any resort experience you’ve ever seen. From the moment you board your launch pod, it’s a fully-immersive, multi-day Star Wars adventure aboard a luxury starship complete with high-end dining, space-view cabins and all of the exciting action you would expect from an authentic Star Wars experience.

It’s the perfect time to start planning your 2019 visit to Disney World, Disneyland or Disney Cruise Line.  I’m out of the office next week but would love to help when I return!  I know my family is ecstatic to see all of these new rides, shows and attractions and booking EARLY is the very best way to do so.
