We were up bright and early for our first day on the slopes! After bringing in eight feet of snow, the winter storm that made getting here so dicey was finally gone. We dropped the four kids at ski school and the adults took the gondola to base camp on the Tamarack Lodge side of the resort.
From here, Stacey and I started our private lessons with our husbands. LOL. We, of course, started on the learning slope to try and get our ski legs back.
After mastering the bunny slope (ha!), we took a nice long break to eat, drink and warm up in the Tamarack Lodge. Their Bloody Mary was the best I’ve ever had and that bacon….. By the time lunch was over, the sun was finally out and everything was even more stunning that before. The snow blowing off of the trees looked like actual glitter!
At this point our “instructors” deemed us ready for the blues. While I was a bit terrified, the views from up top were so spectacular that I almost forgot “what goes up must come down.”
By this point, the guys had earned a break from us so we parted ways. Stacey and I took the gondola down to start our apres ski. We still can’t get over how beautiful Lake Tahoe is!
We set up camp at Fire & Ice in front of a massive fire pit and just under the gondola for our apres ski. This is my favorite part of skiing.
We ended our night shopping and exploring Heavenly Village and with a delicious dinner at Base Camp Pizza.
Day one was a huge success for all!! We are excited to do it again tomorrow!

Would love a post on what to pack for kids/family and where best to purchase. We plan to head West next year for our first trip skiing. Iโm clueless on what clothes and equipment we need; etc.
I’m so glad to see everyone wearing helmets!! I grew up skiing and no one (besides toddlers) ever wore them. We were not so smart!
Gosh, it’s gorgeous! xo
