The hidden gem of Disney Signature Dining, Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge, reopened as a price fixe character dining experience in late December after much anticipation. We enjoyed the new Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White when in town for the runDisney marathon weekend events last month!
Artist Point has been transformed into the Enchanted Forest, and it was just that… enchanting! We loved dining under trees and twinkle lights, and everything just fits well in the Wilderness Lodge.
The leather bound menus start with the story of how the enchanted forest came to be, and the red napkins are tied with apple shared signature cards to carry home and add to your Disney memory books. The characters do sign autographs as well.
Dinner is a great mix of shared starters, individual plated entrees and then shared desserts for a sweet ending. The cocktails are well themed to the story, although we didn’t order one. Honey and Whit chose the prime rib roast for their entrees and I chose the roasted chicken. Everything was really good! The popovers on the prime rib were SO good. I wish I had ordered that just to get my own!
Meeting the characters is standard operating procedure – Snow White, Grumpy and Dopey come by to each table to greet friends, hug and sign autographs.
Periodically throughout the meal, the characters also dance through the restaurant – it is really cheerful and happy. Meanwhile, The Queen (she apparently dislikes the Evil moniker) stands in the corner and rolls her eyes.
The menu is really creative and well themed overall, but I especially loved dessert. The “poison” apples were part of the trio. But then, at the end of the meal, the hostess comes by with a chest billowing smoke (Dry ice) and filled with The Hunter’s Gift to the Queen. Inside is cracked maple popcorn and a divine ganache heart for each person in your party.
After dinner is completed, you are invited to hold court with The Queen. She has always been one of my absolute favorite characters to meet, but you could only find her out on rare occasions or at special events until now.
If you go:
- Artist Point is not a large dining space and this meal is only offered at dinner. Reservations are mandatory but extremely hard to secure.
- This meal is one table serve credit on the Disney Dining Plan.
- You should definitely consider the the time commitment on getting to Wilderness Lodge, waiting on your reservation (they seem to be running consistently late), having your meal and then getting back to the parks or your next destination before booking this meal. It could easily eat up hours of your theme park day. I generally do not recommend dining at a resort in which you are not staying. There are a few exceptions where it is easy and makes sense, and I walk my clients through these decisions.
