Historic Savannah {Eats & Drinks}

I’m back today with some old favorites and new finds on the dining scene in historic Savannah! On this trip, we specifically sought out places that had outdoor dining and it was easy to do. Many restaurants received permission from the city to expand their seating into the sidewalks and even parking spaces and I really appreciated seeing the creativity and measures they were taking to stay in business and keep their employees and guests safe.

First is Vinnie Van Gogo’s Pizza. This was a favorite of my friend group all the way from high school to present day! I’ve brought my family a few times over the years, but it had been a good long while. Right now they have very limited outdoor seating of only 5 tables, each seating 4 people. They did have a takeaway window and there are tons of benches in City Market where we saw families enjoying their meal. We were in absolutely no rush so we put our name on the list to wait for a table.

While we waited we walked City Market. There is always music and a cheerful atmosphere. There were tons of families out too! Savannah allows open containers so stop in The Georgia Tasting Room for a glass of a local beer or wine to go! (Or a wine slush!)

Collins Quarter brings Australia’s café capitol to Savannah. Styled after Melbourne’s historic Collins Street, they deliver a unique café experience by pairing specialty coffee with innovative cuisine. Collins Quarter was open for breakfast and lunch during our visit (early in the week). Their menu is small but yummy! You can see here how they expanded their seating outside, taking parking spaces off the street, rolling out turf, and setting up planters, tables and umbrellas. This is exactly what we saw from MANY downtown restaurants!

I always mention the Cafe at Paris Market and there’s good reason for that! It’s delicious and charming and such a neat treat. You wouldn’t plan to have a meal here. Rather, stop in for a drink, coffee and a snack.

The Emporium at Perry Lane Hotel was so convenient for us and we had breakfast here each morning. They seated guests at every other table inside (hence the giant plants on some tables marking them off), used the bar area for expanded breakfast seating, and also had cafe tables outside. When you book Perry Lane with me, breakfast is included and it was delicious! We loved the grits, pimento cheese omelette and peach french toast. Oh, and the cappuccinos and Honeysuckle Gelato were also fantastic!

The Vault was new to me and was absolutely DELICIOUS!! Daddy-O treated his four girls to lunch here so that made it extra special. The Vault Kitchen and Market is a renovated, local banking institution turned industrially chic eatery. The bank was once a staple in the community, serving Savannahians for over 50 years. Larger parties can dine inside the old vault. The bathroom floors are tiled in real nickles and many menu items have a bank type theme. The location is charming and the food wonderful. Our party highly recommends the lemon coconut soup to start and Teller Chicken Tacos for entree. YUM! We dined outside here (shown below) in a set up very similar to Collins Quarter.

Ahhhh… the Pink House!!!! This is my all time favorite Savannah restaurant ever! They opened for dine in while we were in town and we did a double date with Sister and my brother in law. We didn’t have a reservation so we walked up and put our name on the list for walk up seating. We got drinks to go from the bar and took them to the square to enjoy! My favorites are the BLT salad, pork tenderloin and praline cup dessert.

The Peregrin offers exquisite views of the cityscape from the rooftop deck, atop Perry Lane Hotel. You’ll find hand-crafted premium cocktails and a curated wine list, as well as small plates and a limited dinner menu. With the Virtuoso amenities through my agency, we got two complimentary drinks and a $100 resort credit to use on food and beverage. Hence, we made a nightly visit here! They have a limited menu for meals, a fair selection of small plates and a full bar.

I have tons of other favorite dining locations in Savannah! You can see all of those here:
