Tucked away under the lush fronds of swaying palm trees, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is conveniently located steps away from the lavish lobby of the Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Venture in to this tranquil hideaway for an enchanting evening packed with fantastic fun and delightful surprises.
You will want to explore the whimsically themed lounge—festooned with ancient artifacts and exotic treasures—during your visit. Parts of it come alive during the night, and often triggered by a guest ordering a specific beverage. There is also an open-air Tiki Terrace for a relaxing sip or nibble under the starry sky.
Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto welcomes the whole family—including children—from opening until 8:00 PM. After 8:00 PM, only Guests 21 years of age or older may visit. They open at 4PM each day and start a wait list for tables around 3:30 pm. A line will be formed outside of Trader Sam’s most days starting around 3:30 PM. A great option for guests staying at Polynesian, you can put your name on the list and they will text you when space is available. Multiple parties may be seated together at shared tables or the bar.
Does the name Trader Sam sound familiar? If you’re a long-time Disney fan, it should. Many years ago, famed Adventureland explorer Trader Sam was bitten by the bartending bug. And ever since then, Sam has searched for exotic ingredients to mix into magical libations.
Speaking of libations, they are fun and tasty! I cannot resist the classic HippopotoMai-Tai. Sister enjoys the Mosquito Mojito. Some drinks are served in collectible glassware, which can be purchased (new and clean) separate from the cost of the cocktail.
We love to order a sharable feast to fill the wind in our outrigger sails. Our favorites are kálua pork tacos and pan-fried dumplings. The chicken lettuce cups with hoisin ginger sauce are also tasty. The Thai chicken flatbread was meh.
