Caring for Giants in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Jambo! This summer Whit and I spent the most amazing day in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

But before we get too far into the experience, we started the day with a giant cinnamon roll for breakfast. This has long been one of my boys’ favorite Disney treats. We had this gorgeous patio all to ourselves.

We love to add a new meal or experience on each visit and he chose the Caring for Giants Tour on this particular trip. First, we checked in at the Curiosity Animal Tours kiosk in Africa, where we received our nametags and met our guide.

Our small group of only twelve guests headed back stage to a mini bus that transported us to the elephant viewing platform.

During our one hour tour, we were able to observe the majestic African elephants from approximately 80 feet away—a much closer encounter than other in-park experiences.

Our guide provided fascinating insight into the inner workings of the elephant herd. We got a glimpse into the day-to-day care of these amazing animals and learned of Disney’s conservation efforts dedicated to the preservation of wild populations throughout the world.

We loved watching the women in the heard explore, cool off and, of course, eat. In Disney fashion, every detail was well thought and executed, right down to the name tags made of recycled elephant poop.

No matter how many times I’ve been to Disney, there is always something new to experience. I love helping my clients craft a bespoke itinerary full of hidden gems just like Caring for Giants.

As they say on the savanna, kwaherini – go well!

  1. Love the look on Whit’s face holding recycled elephant poop! My brother and sister in law just returned from a trip to South Africa. His pics were jaw-dropping and seeing animals such as leopards, lions, elephants, impalas, zebras, etc in the wild is something else and the scenery as well especially the waterfalls. I wasnt sure if Disney was in this market yet but if so, you need to put S. Africa on your bucket list.
