Walt Disney World’s Blizzard Beach Water Park

One of my family’s favorite way to spend a Disney day is at the Water Park. We finally made it back for the first time since 2019 and it was just as fabulous as we remembered! Right now, the two water parks are alternating seasonally which one is open. Blizzard Beach will close next week when Typhoon Lagoon reopens. We adore both!

The theming here is just incredible, much like everything else Disney. Rumor has it that what was once a ski resort has melted into the watery wonderland of Blizzard Beach. Christmas music plays all day, hot chocolate is a plenty, a ski lift carries you to the top of the biggest slides and pretty much everything is snow capped.

We met up with the cousins right at park opening to jumpstart the flurry of fun! It was an record high February day in Florida and we ditched our regular park plans to soak up the sun.

You’ll find a great retail shop, dining and amenities at this park. Except, you don’t have to book or reserve anything. It feels so refreshing to just show up somewhere at Disney.

For the record, our two favorite water park snacks are the mini donuts and ice cream bucket!

With a group of six, we did reserve a Polar Patio in advance. There are not many and they go fast so this is the one water park thing you need to plan for. Each Standard Polar Patio can accommodate up to 10 Guests and includes the following amenities:

  • Seating for up to 6 Guests
  • Towels
  • A locker
  • Ice water, available all day
  • Souvenir refillable mugs, which can be refilled at Disney water parks with complimentary soda and water on the day of your Polar Patio rental

The attendant service is also great. He provided a number to text him any time during the day to place food and drink orders, get more water and refresh towels.

First things first, you will want to head for the ski lift!  You can access three slides from the lift and there were no lines at 10AM.  If a line builds up for the lift, you can certainly take the stairs as well!

The boys split from us almost immediately so we warmed up (cooled off?) with the family raft ride.

Next up was a family friendly competition on the racer slides. These are so much fun and everyone got into them. There wasn’t one where we didn’t come off laughing! As you can see, the theming is perfection.

We took an afternoon break for lunch in the Polar Patio. Texting in our order in advance was SO nice and convenient. Nothing works up an appetite like a day in the water park.

With all the main slides done before lunch, we spent the afternoon in the wave pool and on the lazy river. Although, I am still waiting for that magical age where my boys are actually “lazy” on the the river, rather than pushing me into every waterfall and coming up under me trying to tip me out of my float.

For the littles, the darling Tike’s Peak has been themed with Frozen characters. This is a huge space perfectly designed for the littlest mouseketeers. I didn’t get pictures this time, but the Ski Patrol Training Camp is another spot my kids used to LOVE. It is perfect for elementary aged guests.

I love working a water park day into my client itineraries. For a first time visitor, you REALLY need a week to enjoy all four theme parks, the resort and a water park. I will never try to cram pack an itinerary to the point where it isn’t enjoyable. If something has to be cut for time, it is typically this.
