Royal Caribbean {Odyssey of the Seas Spring Break}

We are just back from Spring Break 2023, spent sailing on Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas. We had a group of 11, including 5 teenage boys, and it was an AMAZING week! This was our third voyage with Royal Caribbean, but the first one in a long time.

Odyssey of the Seas is a brand new Quantum Ultra Class cruise ship, full of fantastic onboard experiences, great dining options and a fabulous resort-style pool deck. Here is our recap of the week on the Odyssey.

We boarded the ship in Fort Lauderdale and immediately started exploring! The Odyssey is in pristine condition and there were so many fun spaces to check out. Most of the activities on-board require a reservation and additional cost, but they was a huge variety for the teenagers.

While there are tons of additional fees for dining, drinks, activates, etc, I find the cost of entry on Royal Caribbean to be very reasonable. We had two adjoining verandah staterooms. They are pretty small and I am so glad we did two – we would have been miserable piled in one for a week.

We spent almost all of our time onboard at the pool area. We loved the variety of seating options and live music in the afternoons.

Mornings and afternoons at the pool had a definite party vibe. Evenings and very early mornings were quiet!

I enjoyed morning coffee in the solarium, available to ages 16+. The rest of my group wasn’t a big fan of the indoor area but I thought it was peaceful!

There is one main dining room and we ate here three of our six nights. The menu was almost the same every evening, with just a few swaps here and there. The food was fine.

We paid for the upgraded 3-night dining package to enjoy some of the specialty restaurants onboard and were so glad we did! Our favorite was Izumi Sushi. We enjoyed Chops and had a memorable experience in Wonderland.

Whit loved the dining activities available to book onboard, and they turned out to be so much fun. We did both the Taste of Royal and a sushi making class.

After dinner, the adults enjoyed the onboard activities in the lounges. This was always followed by late night pizza! We found the shows to be very average. We also had massages in the spa that were nice.

Overall, it was a great vacation. I think this is a perfect spring break trip for a group with teenagers that wants to be together but also have some time to do things on their own as a family. There is also an option for a variety of budgets. Royal Caribbean has a massive fleet of ships and all are not created equal. I am very excited to talk to my clients about Royal Caribbean and my family cannot wait to get onboard their newest ship, the Icon, ASAP!
