Asheville NC {Grove Park Inn R&R}

The lacrosse tournament started today and the boys ended up with not a single overlapping game. With Whit scheduled at 8, 10 and 12, followed by John at 2, 4 and 6, we decided that Honey would spend the day at the field and I’d spend the day at the resort. I had John in the morning and Whit in the afternoon. It was my favorite lacrosse tournament yet. :-) John slept in so I enjoyed coffee by the fire in the Great Hall. Then, we sat down for a big breakfast together mid-morning.

While he got ready for his day, I started the Grove Park Inn Audio History Tour. It was excellent and completely fascinating. I learned so much and enjoyed walking all over the main inn, finding little curiosities I had overlooked.

One of my favorite segments was on the large collection of arts and craft furnishings. Much of the pieces are still in use and are original to the resort. There is also a corridor of smaller artifacts on display.

I got about half way through when we swapped kids. Whit showered and then we enjoyed a delicious lunch at Sunset Terrace.

He wanted to rest in the room so I continued the audio tour. My other favorite part was the main inn atrium lobby. This is where the Pink Lady is said to roam the halls. I did a little ghost hunting to no avail.

I did some reading on both the front porch and the back terrace while Whit ran around with a few kids and a football.

Honey and John returned just in time for sunset happy hour. I am SO glad we made this every day of our three night stay!

We did a late 9PM dinner at Edison, again with spectacular views and a cool mountain breeze. This was also a yummy choice in a casual setting. We loved the chicken sandwich and burger!

It was a picture perfect day!

  1. One of my favorite places! Make sure to go back around Christmas to see the Gingerbread House displays at the GP Inn, and while in Asheville go see the Biltmore all decked out for Christmas!
