Hello, 2025!

After a day of football and lounging, we enjoyed our 22nd annual New Years Day meal!

After considering the purchase all year, I finally bought two disco balls. I sat them on the credenza in my office and just love the light they reflect all over the room. They will live on the dining table for a while now and were the star of this tablescape.

I gave myself gorgeous white linen napkins with a metallic gold monogram for Christmas three years ago (ha!) and am still quite pleased with that gift. I used my gold bamboo napkin rings and tied gold leaf ribbon in a bow to the tops of them. I loved the extra bit of glitz.

I ran a few votives down the center of the table, disco ball ornaments and added a vase of flowers. I have had the place cards for years – I laminated them and we reuse them often.

This year I used our Butler’s Pantry plates and Waterford Millennium Flutes with Lismore goblets. I had no idea how fast these years would go when we were gifted the crystal in 2001.

Honey said our blessing and John picked a toast from our Rising to the Occasion book. It is our tradition that we each also offer a toast for the coming year based on which glass we got out of the millennium set.

We also talked about what we were most excited about in the year ahead. For me, it is celebrating Honey’s 50th birthday, launching my mahjong club with friends, some great trips on the docket and summer with all four of us home again.

Our menu includes pork, hoppin john, greens, cornbread, pecan pie, sweet tea, champagne and sparkling grape juice. It’s a meager meal by most standards, but one we all love to welcome a new year.
