One of my family’s favorite ways to spend a Disney day is at the Water Parks – yes, plural! This summer marks the first time since 2019 that both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are open at the same time. Beginning this fall, they’ll once again rotate seasonally. So, if both are on your wish list, summer is the time to visit!

The theming here is just incredible, much like everything else Disney does so brilliantly. Take Blizzard Beach: rumor has it this frosty wonderland was once a ski resort that melted into a sun-soaked splash zone. Christmas music plays all day long, snow drifts line the rooftops, hot chocolate flows (yes, even in June!), and a ski lift whisks you to the top of the park’s tallest slides.

There’s even a great retail shop, plenty of dining options, and all the usual Disney amenities with one big perk: you don’t need advance reservations. It feels so refreshing to just show up and splash in.

For the record, our two must-have water park treats? The warm mini donuts and the shareable ice cream bucket… the perfect sweet reward for all that swimming.

Since we had a group of five teens in tow this visit, I did book one extra bit of luxury: a Polar Patio. If you want a private home base for the day, this is the one thing you do need to plan ahead. These shaded cabanas book up quickly and are assigned at check-in, so the location varies. (Of course, I handle this for my clients!) Each Standard Polar Patio accommodates up to 10 guests and includes:
- Seating for up to 6 Guests
- Towels
- A locker
- Ice water, available all day
- Souvenir refillable mugs, which can be refilled at Disney water parks with complimentary soda and water on the day of your Polar Patio rental
- Attendant service (ours was fantastic – we could text him anytime for fresh towels, refills, or food orders!)

Head straight for the ski lift first thing in the morning. It gives you access to three major slides with practically no wait if you’re there at opening. And if a line does build up, you can always take the stairs for a little extra thrill.

The big kids split from us almost immediately — so we warmed up (or cooled down?) on the family raft ride.

Next, we couldn’t resist a little friendly competition on the racer slides. These are so much fun and had everyone laughing at the finish line.

We loved having the Polar Patio to break for lunch. Being able to text in our order in advance was so convenient. Nothing works up an appetite like water slides and wave pools.

With the big slides done by lunch, we spent the afternoon drifting between the wave pool and lazy river. Although, if you know boys, you know there’s nothing “lazy” about it … mine love tipping me out of my float and pushing me into every waterfall!

For little ones, the darling Tike’s Peak is now themed with Frozen characters – a magical splash zone just for preschoolers.

And for elementary ages, Ski Patrol Training Camp is another favorite from when my kids were younger – think rope bridges, slides, and fun challenges scaled just right.

I always love working a water park day into my client itineraries. For first-time Disney visitors, I recommend a full week to truly enjoy the four theme parks, your resort, and a water park day. I’ll never cram an itinerary so tight that you need a vacation from your vacation — if time is tight, this is usually the first thing I’ll help you weigh out.
When you’re ready to trade roller coasters for inner tubes – or want a private cabana waiting just for you – I’m always here to help you plan every Disney detail.
