Steakhouse 71 opened in conjunction with the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary celebration at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Named for the year the Contemporary first opened – 1971 – this restaurant beautifully blends retro charm with modern sophistication.
The design pays homage to the 1970s, reimagined in a sleek, comfortable, and contemporary way. Look closely and you’ll spot subtle Florida-inspired touches, like nods to Orange Bird, citrus groves, and more. One of my favorite parts of the experience actually happens before you’re even seated: take a moment to soak in the incredible vintage photos lining the entrance, a beautiful tribute to Walt Disney World’s earliest days.

Why I Keep Coming Back
Since its opening, I’ve dined at Steakhouse 71 several times – once at the bar and the rest in the dining room. It’s quickly become a must-do restaurant for me on many of my Disney trips. Here’s why:
- The food is consistently delicious
- The service is attentive and friendly
- The prices are surprisingly reasonable by Disney standards
It’s the perfect balance of casual comfort and upscale Disney dining. The best part? It feels fancy without the fuss (or the sky-high price tag), proving that a little Disney luxury doesn’t have to come with sticker shock.

Steakhouse 71 Lounge
The lounge is an absolute gem. It’s the perfect place to settle in with a cozy seat and a cocktail inspired by the 1970s and Florida’s citrus groves.
My must-try cocktails:
- 🍐 Pear French 75 – light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced
- 🍊 Citrus Blossom Groves – bright, flavorful, and a nod to classic Florida
The lounge menu features modern spins on classic comfort foods, including:
- PB&J Chicken Wings (surprisingly delicious!)
- Loaded Macaroni & Cheese
- The house classic Bacon and Eggs
Tip: The lounge and bar are first come, first served, and they fill up quickly, especially in the evenings. Arrive early for your best chance at a table!

Steakhouse 71 Dining Room
On every single visit, we kicked things off with the Steakhouse 71 Onion Rings – hand-breaded and served with a spicy ranch dipping sauce. I’m not typically a huge onion ring fan, but not a single bite is ever left uneaten. The French Onion Soup is also excellent.
For entrées, we are drawn to the Filet and the New York Strip. Both are cooked perfectly and full of flavor. I personally recommend the Red Wine Sauce over the other sauce options – it pairs beautifully with the steak. And whatever you do, do not skip the Au Gratin Potatoes. These are a must order and possibly my favorite side dish on Disney property. SO GOOD!
If you’re dining at lunch instead of dinner, the menu changes slightly. My absolute favorite lunch item is the Prime Rib Sandwich, layered with shaved prime rib, caramelized onions, herb aïoli, provolone cheese, arugula, and a touch of horseradish cream. My boys LOVE the burger and call it the best on site.
To finish off your meal, don’t miss the Steakhouse 71 Chocolate Cake. With its decadent layers of whiskey-infused chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, and fresh raspberries, it’s pure dessert bliss.

Final Thoughts
While I wouldn’t necessarily leave Magic Kingdom just to dine here, Steakhouse 71 is a fantastic option for guests staying at the Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower. It’s also a convenient choice for those at the Polynesian or Grand Floridian.
For me, it’s a restaurant I’ll happily return to again and again…. for the great food, nostalgic atmosphere, and relaxing break from the parks.
Whether you’re there for a full meal in the dining room or cocktails and small plates in the lounge, Steakhouse 71 is a win all around.
