There is just nothing like a day at Castaway Cay.
After 19 Disney cruises, it continues to be my family’s favorite stop in the Bahamas and Caribbean. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, everything feels easy, and all my people find their own version of happy. Many cruise lines charge extra for beach chairs, food, and fun on their private islands… but on Disney’s Castaway Cay, nearly everything’s included.
As soon as you step off the ship, Disney magic is everywhere. Towels are waiting. The beaches stretch out in picture-perfect white sand. The turquoise water sparkles like a postcard. You tap your Key to the World card for anything you need, and instantly the only decision you really have to make is… lounger or hammock?
And for all the moms out there, let me say this loud and clear, it’s the easiest beach day you’ll ever have! The swim areas are roped off, the water is calm and shallow, and lifeguards are stationed everywhere. Those dreams of sitting in a beach chair right on the shoreline while your kids splash in the ocean water? They come true here.
Castaway Cay has also been recognized time and time again by Cruise Critic as the Best Cruise Line Private Island, and when you spend even an hour here, you’ll understand why. It’s beautiful but it’s also thoughtfully beautiful. Disney Cruise Line takes conservation seriously, restoring coral reef life, protecting endangered sea turtles, and even using solar energy and recycled cooking oil to power operations. The magic comes with meaning, and I love that.
What I adore most is how the island really does have something for every single person in the family. Little ones can splash to their hearts’ content, big kids can launch themselves down water slides, teens have a cool hideaway just for them… and the grown-ups? Well, you’ll find us melting into the bliss of Serenity Bay with a frozen drink in hand, pretending we live here forever.
And yes… the kids clubs come ashore! The fanciest gift Disney gives parents is the freedom to enjoy their beach day exactly how they wish, which may include a nap in the shade.
Of course, Castaway Cay knows hungry families are not fun families so lunch is completely included! We always wander up to Cookies for a beachy BBQ spread, cold drinks, and then, naturally… unlimited ice cream. Vacation rules apply.
If your crew wants to be on the go, you can snorkel and search out hidden surprises under the sea, rent bikes, paddle out on aqua trikes, play in the giant floating playground, or even run a 5K through palm-lined paths and claim your medal at the finish. Character meets pop up throughout the day too… nothing beats seeing Mickey in his island gear!
And, if you’re celebrating something special, or just want a more luxurious day, private cabanas, water equipment rentals, and Serenity Bay massages are all available to elevate the experience.
