Graduate Knoxville {Rocky Top Charm in the Heart of Vol Country}

We rolled into Knoxville Sunday for Whit’s first official college tour, kicking things off at the University of Tennessee. I couldn’t resist the chance to stay at Graduate Knoxville, the Vols’ home-turf hotel filled with school spirit, Tennessee nostalgia, and good ol’ Rocky Top charm.

Nestled right on The Strip, we could walk to campus tours both days and explore the area just like the students do. It was truly the perfect base for getting a feel for life here at UTK. That said, we were glad to have a car to reach some great restaurants around Knoxville.

Arrival

Much like our Graduate experience in Auburn… the arrival process was a little chaotic. One person working the desk, one valet juggling everyone, and no bell services in sight. It was a bit of a “make your own magic” situation as we unloaded the car. But once we stepped inside all was forgiven.

Lobby + Vibe

The lobby is huge, lively, and just darling. So well-decorated and themed that you instantly feel immersed in Volunteer spirit. We made use of the lobby a lot throughout our stay:

Early-morning work session for me
Breakfast before campus tours
A good happy hour from 3–5 PM
A little “what’s it like to be a student” moment for Whit

It felt cozy yet buzzing and was the perfect mix. I do love a good hotel lobby! Who wants to be trapped in their little room at all times?!

Rooms

They’re almost as cute as Auburn’s and that is saying something! (In all fairness, Auburn is closer to my heart at this moment in time, so I could feel they are equally as perfect should Whit choose Rocky Top as his home away from home for four years.)

Every corner had a clever touch… the kind that makes you look twice and smile. The hotel itself is a bit older than Auburn’s Graduate property, and you can tell in small places. But honestly, it added to the cabinesque charm and was nothing that detracted from the stay one bit.

Dining + Drinks Onsite

Poindexter Coffee

Poindexter is located right in the charming lobby and was our breakfast spot both mornings. With friendly service, they offer Coffee Manufactory brews, smoothies, pastries, and grab-and-go bites. The afternoons bring nice happy hour specials.

Saloon 16

Saloon 16 is just behind the lobby and is Peyton Manning’s “very own” watering hole. The theming is fantastic and immersive. The service was slow – our waitress said she was the only one that came in. The food + drinks are fine, but not memorable. We enjoyed better eats elsewhere in Knoxville, but the vibe and convenience made it worth popping in.

Price + Service

This is not a luxury hotel but it is:

✅ Cute
✅ Comfortable
✅ Convenient
✅ Fun
✅ A fantastic value

We paid under $200/night (I don’t know that I’ve done that anywhere in years), and for the location and immersion in campus life… I’d absolutely stay again!

Would We Return?

You bet! Especially for campus visits, game weekends (if the price is right), or anytime we want to be in the heart of Vol territory.

I’ll share more about our campus tours soon, pending Whit’s approval. Today, we’re off to visit the Tickle College of Engineering!

Rocky Top, you’ll always be… (singing on repeat and driving Honey and Whit crazy)
