Vail Week {A Picture Perfect Day}

We woke up to steady snowfall that truly made it feel like we were living inside a snow globe. While I do not particularly relish being cold, I absolutely love the ambiance that comes with it. Today’s entry may feel a bit uneventful, but not every vacation day needs to be carefully planned and packed with activity. The whole point of vacation is to escape that.

Morning at The Hythe

Coffee by the fireplace in the lobby is my winter vacation ritual. The boys eventually joined me, and we headed back to Margie’s Haus for breakfast, just like yesterday. The standouts here are the omelets and fresh squeezed orange juice. When you book with me, this buffet is included for two!

Ski Day for the Guys

Fueled and bundled, the boys were off again. They have absolutely hit their stride this week. The snow was dreamy and they skied hard. Honey came back glowing as he reported that Whit is officially a better skier than he is. I am fairly certain he has been saying that for a couple of years now, but this time he seemed especially proud. :-)

Resort Reset

While they were carving turns, I settled into my own version of a mountain day. I ordered a hot chocolate, grabbed a really good salad from the café, and settled in to binge the first four episodes of Bridgerton Season 4. I have no regrets.

Après Deck at The Hythe

When the boys returned, we met up for s’mores and more hot chocolate on the Après Deck. Snow continued to fall, fires were going, and it was the picture of perfection.

Friends Arrive + Garfinkel’s

The highlight of the evening was friends arriving in town. We met them at Garfinkel’s, Honey’s favorite haunt from his winters in Vail decades ago. If you have spent any time around Honey, you know the stories are never far behind. Lift operator days, burger flipping shifts, late nights and the legendary shot wheel all made an appearance.

This time, he finally got to relive the glory days with an actual spin of the shot wheel – and a more than willing companion – which felt like a long overdue rite of passage. It was fun to see him step back into a place that holds so many memories. And the food was good old American comfort style.

Village Dessert

We ended the night wandering through Lionshead Village for gelato and hot chocolate affogatos, cups warming our hands as snow fell lightly around us and lights twinkled overhead. Again, like a Hallmark movie.

It was one of those days where nothing particularly dramatic happened, yet everything felt just right. Sweet dreams, friends.
