Vail Week {Arrival at The Hythe}

Honey spent a few winters during college working in Vail, and they remain some of the best memories of his life. He had originally dreamed of going to college out west, but Georgia Tech won out. He loves to regale us with the stories. Taking the Greyhound bus from Atlanta to Vail. Arriving with no plan, no job, and nowhere to stay. Picking up work as a lift operator and flipping burgers. Nights at Garfinkel’s and tales of the infamous shot wheel. Friends joining him for future adventures. Snowy mornings and long ski days that felt endless when you are twenty.

After a decade of ski trips together, we are finally returning to Vail. Honey is absolutely over the moon. There is something really special about coming back to a place that shaped you when you were young and his excitement is simply contagious!

Arrival at The Hythe

We opted to fly right into Eagle Vail rather than Denver. As a travel advisor I will tell you that the cheapest flight is almost never the best flight. Consider logistics, traveling with kids and price when making the decision! We hopped off the plane to find weather strangely similar to what we left behind in Georgia!

After an easy Uber ride, we arrived at The Hythe. Tucked into Lionshead village and set against the majestic Rocky Mountains, I chose it for the cozy vibe, amenities and, of course, price. The lobby was glowing when we arrived. Two fireplaces flickering. Cozy seating areas layered with texture. Ski boots clomping in and out. It is warm, welcoming and exactly what you want for a ski trip!

The Hythe Rooms

We’re in a Deluxe Larger Guest Room with one king and a fireplace. And, if I could design my ideal ski trip room, this would be it.

• Fireplace
• Mountain views
• Soaking tub
• Cozy alpine decor
• Ski-in ski-out access
• Ski valet

The fireplace makes the whole space feel instantly snug, the soaking tub is calling my name, and the mountain views remind you exactly why you traveled all this way. Ski-in ski-out is a must for us. Vacation is not hauling gear, taking shuttles, or donning cold wet boots. (Not that I ski anymore, but I do have to share the room with them!)

10th Mountain

After settling into our room, we were off to explore. Did I mention Honey’s excitement?! One of my favorite touches here is the 10th Mountain Whiskey experience right in the lobby. Each day they offer three complimentary tastes from the local 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirit Company. It is such a fun way to settle in for the evening.

Après Deck

After skiing, The Hythe leans fully into the après life. Daily complimentary s’mores and hot chocolate are set up on the Après Deck for a family friendly gathering. It’s simple and nostalgic and just plain fun.

Lionshead Village

With a little time before dinner, we wandered through Lionshead Village. Think twinkling ice skating rink, the Eagle Bahn Lift just steps away, cafés, shops, and little bars tucked along snowy walkways. It feels charming and compact and easy and will make for a lovely home away from home.

Revel Lounge Dinner

We kept it simple with dinner at Revel Lounge inside the hotel. We went simple and cozy with a burger, schnitzel and club sandwich. Not culinary fireworks, but cozy and hearty after a long day.

And then we crashed early. Luxury is not just about the room. It is about how your trip feels from start to finish. And this one is off to a very good start.
