It snowed all day long, which is exactly why you come to the mountains, right?
The Hythe Morning
We did our now-standard mountain morning with coffee by the fireplace in the lobby while the boys slowly rolled out of bed and joined me. We headed back to Margie’s Haus for breakfast because when something works and is included, you repeat it.
Ski Day for the Boys
Then they were off to ski. They have been so happy with Vail and all the snow we got this week. They keep saying the crowds are low, and Honey is just over the moon to be back here with us. Yesterday they ate at Wildwood on the mountain, which is where Honey worked one of his winters in Vail. That alone made his entire day.
Spa, But Make It a Field Trip
Instead of staying at The Hythe spa again, I decided to mix it up and took the courtesy shuttle over to the Four Seasons for the afternoon. Let me tell you, that spa is lovely. Cozy, calm, and exactly what you want when it is snowing sideways outside. I started slowly in the relaxation room with my book by the fire before heading in for a 50 minute Mountain Massage that was so good I immediately regretted not booking 80 minutes. I would call it a rookie mistake, but I am absolutely not a rookie when it comes to spa days. :-) After my treatment, I did the full circuit of sauna, steam room, cold plunge, hot tub, and shower. Then I wrapped myself in the most sumptuous robe in the women’s relaxation room, turned on my audiobook, and promptly dozed off.
If you are curious how The Hythe spa compares to the Four Seasons, I would say they are pretty equal in terms of quality, amenities, and service. I even peeked online to see what others thought, and interestingly The Hythe is rated slightly higher.
Haute Hot Chocolate
The boys and our friends met me at the Four Seasons for what is absolutely the most viral thing to do in Vail right now: Haute Hot Chocolate at Remedy.
Oh my word.
It is ridiculous in the best possible way with a giant house-made marshmallow, a chocolate lattice, and rich hot chocolate poured over the top. It is completely over the top and entirely worth it. Whit is now lobbying for homemade marshmallows at our house, so I suspect that will become a project sooner rather than later.
Vail Village
From the Four Seasons, we opted to take a brisk but beautiful walk to do a little shopping before dinner. If this isn’t a real life Hallmark movie, I don’t know what is!
Ridge + River Dinner
We grabbed dinner at Ridge + River mostly because it was the only place that could take six of us at a decent time, so expectations were modest.
We were pleasantly surprised. The dining room was lovely, we had a table by the fire, and the ambiance was on point. The menu was small but solid, and everything we ordered was really good.
It was one of those perfectly balanced days. They got powder. I got pampered. We all ended the evening with hot chocolate and friends. And the snow never stopped.
