I honestly don’t know how many years running my sweet friend L has organized this little tradition, but it has become one of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts to myself. Each year, on the Friday of Mother’s Day weekend, we scoot away from all the May-cember responsibilities for twenty-four hours at The St. Regis Atlanta. And it is pure bliss.

The St. Regis Atlanta is truly my “hometown” favorite for a staycation. We’ve visited as a family, as a couple and with girlfriends over the years, and somehow it fits every occasion perfectly. Elegant but comfortable. Luxurious without feeling stuffy. It always feels like such a treat.
Now that all of L’s children are finally in school full time, we were really able to make the most of our little escape this year. She picked me up at 9AM sharp and off we went to Henri’s Bakery & Deli for breakfast and the most divine lavender iced coffee. Truly dreamy.

From there we wandered through Lucy’s Market and Weezie, leisurely shopping and chatting with absolutely nowhere we needed to be. Honestly, that may be one of the greatest luxuries of all at this stage of life.

Next came lunch at The Swan Coach House, which is the quintessential ladies lunch in Atlanta. Chicken salad. Frozen fruit salad. Cheese straws. A dining room full of women lingering over conversation. And naturally, plenty of time exploring the fabulous little gift shop afterward.

We arrived at the St. Regis with enough time to spend six luxurious hours at the pool, which honestly felt like the greatest gift imaginable after the whirlwind of spring. We swam, talked, noshed, needlepointed and fully embraced doing very little. Exactly what moms so rarely allow themselves.

That evening we headed to another Atlanta institution, Chops Lobster Bar, for dinner. The kind of meal where you linger at the table long after the plates are cleared because no one is in any hurry for the evening to end.

And then Saturday morning, because moms will forever be moms, we were both up early anyway. 😂 We enjoyed a delicious breakfast before she dropped me back at home and right back into the beautiful chaos of May.

These little twenty-four hour escapes always leave me feeling rested, grateful and more like myself again. And truly, every mom deserves that once in a while.
