There are a handful of Disney restaurants we return to over and over again no matter how many new places we try, and Storytellers Cafe is absolutely one of them.

Tucked inside Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Storytellers manages to feel cozy, relaxed and distinctly Disneyland all at once. We’ve now dined here across multiple Disneyland trips over the years, both as a family and with extended family, and every single visit reminds me why it remains one of my favorite dining experiences at Disneyland Resort.

The restaurant itself is beautiful in that warm California Craftsman style Disney’s Grand Californian does so well. Lots of rich woods, stonework, soft lighting and little details inspired by California folklore and national parks. It feels much calmer and more elevated than many character dining locations, which is part of the appeal for me.

And then there’s the food. Because unlike some character meals where you go mostly for the experience, Storytellers consistently delivers genuinely good food too.

We’ve enjoyed both breakfast and brunch here, and the buffet offerings are extensive without feeling overwhelming. You’ll find all the classic favorites like Mickey waffles, pastries, carved meats, fresh berries, chilaquiles, eggs, potatoes and an omelet station, but the quality overall feels noticeably better than typical theme park buffet fare.
One thing I especially appreciate is that there truly feels like there’s something for everyone. Picky eaters, adventurous eaters, kids, grandparents… everyone always leaves happy and very full.

But of course, the biggest draw for many families is the characters. Storytellers currently offers Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast and Brunch featuring Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Chip and Dale in their adorable adventure outfits.
And unlike some character meals that can feel rushed or chaotic, the interactions here have consistently felt relaxed and personal during our visits. The characters spend quality time at the tables and the overall atmosphere feels joyful without being overstimulating.

One of my favorite things about Storytellers is that it’s located outside the parks themselves. You do not need a park ticket to dine here, which makes it such a smart choice for arrival days, departure days or slower Disneyland mornings. In fact, I often recommend it strategically for clients wanting Disney magic without immediately jumping into the intensity of park touring.

It’s also especially convenient if you’re staying at Disney’s Grand Californian since the restaurant sits right off the main lobby area.
Reservations are absolutely recommended and can be quite competitive, especially for brunch times and holiday periods. Of course, this is one of those reservations I happily handle for my clients because Disneyland dining windows can require a little strategy.
