On My Bedside {The Fault In Our Stars}

I finished up The Fault In Our Stars by John Green last month on my little girls getaway.  Being the story of kids battling cancer, it put me really far outside of my comfort zone.  But I loved it.  Green tells a beautiful story of cancer, loss and death in a way that made me smile, made my heart ache, got me to giggle, and only at the end cry “the ugly cry”.  I loved it because it is the story of teenagers living their life – every second of every minute of their life – to the fullest.  And that’s what I get up and hope to do on every single day that I’m blessed with another sunrise.  So, would I recommend reading it on a crowded airplane or on the beach at Disney?  Probably not.  But would I recommend reading it?  YES!  You can’t help but walk away feeling grateful to breathe deep and be alive.

The Fault in Our Stars

Goodreads says:  Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

As always, I’d love to know what’s on YOUR bedside!  Seeing as I spent more than seven hours at the baseball park today for three games, I’m not exactly sure when I’ll fit in reading.  But I want a nice long list for when the moment strikes :-)

  1. Wow, you are one brave woman to read that – I'm not sure I could. I think I might have the ugly cry all the way through it. I've always like it though when people recommend a book. How do you go about choosing your next book? I get to read books for fun over the summer (that have nothing with education) and I am looking forward to it. I hope the remainder of your weekend is GREAT!

  2. I read this last week….and I must say it is the best book I have read so far this year!! Very well written and so honest about the feelings of terminal patients. As an old nurse I thought it was superb. Right now I am reading Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight. It is good but really after reading The Fault in Our Stars, I am finding it hard to get interested in other books!!

  3. I'm reading the most random book ever – Tyrannosaur Canyon. It happens to be SO GOOD. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm also reading Hands Free Mama which is a book that ALL PARENTS need to read through. It's wonderful and a perfect book for the Lenten season, in my opinion. I keep seeing The Fault in Our Stars…may have to try it!

  4. We were at the ballpark 9 hours today (travel ball) – & back at it tomorrow! I am (re)reading Outlander. The Fault in Our Stars in on my list. Can't wait to get to it!

    1. I know! They keep moving the release date back, so I'm reading the rest I the series again in anticipation (yes, I know how nerdy that sound)! :-) Happy Sunday! xo

  5. A friend of mine told me about this book. I couldn't read it. My 17 year old son passed away from brain cancer. He was in Children's hospital for 11 months. I hope someday I can open the book and read it. She said it was such an inspiration for her.

  6. That book sounds very good and I will put it on my reading list. I recently finished Glitter and Glue by Kelly Korrigan and enjoyed it tremendously. I love this author and enjoyed the previous book I read by her which is The Middle Place. I will be flying to Colorado soon to meet my new grandson Ashton and will bring three books, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, and Philomena by Martin Sixsmith. Thy we all recommended highly.

  7. I also loved the Fault in Our Stars and I too had the ugly cry. I would like to recommend The Kitchen House (one of the best books I have ever read) and also Wild which is going to be movie soon, I believe.
