Tooth Fairy

So we’re flying down the highway to Rosemary Beach, somewhere in the middle of Alabama, and the PCP announces from the backseat “something happened to my tooth.”  I can’t help but groan and mutter in an unsuitably unkind voice (in my defense, I have been to the urgent care for stitches twice in the last month) “what now?”

Well, lo and behold, he lost his first tooth!  With no sign or warning, the tooth just fell right out while he was snacking on an apple.  And as the PCP rejoiced at this much anticipated rite of passage, my eyes were welling up at this consummate evidence that my baby is growing up.

Now you can image how befuddled I was…trying to pull off a tooth fairy appearance without the full array of supplies and resources that I have at my disposal when home.  After the PCP was sound asleep, the whole family debated the going rate for a first tooth.  We had loads of grand ideas – a silver dollar, a two dollar bill, a US dollar and another from another country – none of which could be executed from our house at the beach at ten p.m.  In the end we went with a five dollar bill (only because it was the first), a letter from the Tooth Fairy and some rather clunky pixie dust leaving a trail from the window to the bunk.

This is obviously not the crowning glory of my crafting moments, but the PCP was literally jumping for joy the moment he awoke (at six o’clock might I add.)  I didn’t even have to tell him that the strange scrap paper pieces were intended to be pixie dust :-)  So while it wasn’t the grand affair I had envisioned, little John was positively enchanted.  And that’s all that matters.

You can bet your bottom dollar I’m going to be ready when the next one comes out!
xoxo

  1. Woohoo to PCP! Ya gotta love a visit from the tooth fairy, especially for the first time! I have given as a new baby gift $20 in silver dollars and a tube of pixie dust in a cute little bag. I also made up a cute little poem about the visit from the tooth fairy. The new moms loved it! I just hope they remembered where they put the bag of coins, haha!
