Pray for Jay Bird

My sweet nephew Jay, or Bird as the family calls him, is having another surgery this morning.  He has had an unexplained swollen tonsil since last May that his pediatrician noticed at his 3 year check-up.  Since they need to remove the one tonsil, they are going to go ahead and do a full tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy to take everything out.  He is also having surgery under his tongue (a frenulectomy procedure) to correct his tongue-tie.

The doctors are most concerned about him having only one enlarged tonsil (rather than both being enlarged) as this can be a sign of lymphoma.  As the doctors have explained, the majority of pediatric cases that have unilateral tonsillar enlargement will not have lymphoma.  However, most patients that do end up having tonsillar lymphoma had a unilateral tonsillar enlargement as a presenting sign.  A biopsy of the tonsil will finally rule out lymphoma.

Please keep our Bird in your prayers today and through the week.  Pray for the doctors performing his surgery at 8 a.m. this morning.  Pray that his biopsy comes back normal and that the combination of removing his tonsils, adenoids and tongue-tie will improve his eating and weight gain.  Pray for Sister and her Mister – that stay strong and positive while waiting on the results.  And pray that he bounces back to his usual preciously energetic state in no time at all.

We are hoping that Bird only spends one night at the hospital.  Promise to keep y’all updated!
xoxo

UPDATE: Bird is out of surgery and was already discharged to go home without staying the night!!  The doctors reported that his enlarged tonsil felt normal and the lab results will be back in about 72 hours.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!  We can’t wait to go visit him tomorrow :-)

  1. I will be praying for him and his parents that all goes well, no other complications, and peace for his mom and day (and you). God has this and has him in the palm of His hands. Can't wait to hear good news!

  2. Prayers for this little boy and your family! Having a child with an eating issue is one of the most stressful Experiences a mother can endure. I am truly sorry he has to go through this. Will you let us know today how the surgery goes?

  3. Praying for him and all of you to keep the faith and strength to help the little bird go through what seems a bothersome time.
    Blessings,
    Teresa

  7. Your nephew is adorable, and prayers will be said for a speedy recovery. It's so hard when our little ones go through these things. Praying especially for a clear test result.

  8. I don't comment much, but I read EVERYDAY. Just wanted to let you know that we are praying for your Bird. Love to your Sister and her Mister, too.

  9. Sending prayers to little bird. Hope that all went well this morning and test results come back good. God is good and he will be with you all today.

  10. Prayers for a long, healthy and happy life for this sweet little boy. And extra prayers for your sister and the little one she is carrying. Us Mommies tend to do without when our little ones need us, but pregnancy demands we not forget ourselves. I'm certain you are doing your best to take care of her while she takes care of Bird. Hugs to you all.

  11. I will be praying for your little nephew and looking for good news. We are lucky to have such good pediatric hospitals and doctors in Atlanta. I'm sure that the surgery will go smoothly and he'll be in excellent hands.

  12. God answers quickly! I started praying at the beginning of the post and at the end you had already posted the update. Will continue to pray for clear, healthy results. I'm sure he will be enjoying some popsicles this week!
