Cabin Fever

I’ve been moaning and groaning about all the rain in Atlanta for days.  DAYS, y’all.  And while I keep trying to remind myself how good it is for the new sod, I’m just completely put out by all the fun that was cancelled over the holiday weekend due to this monsoon.  It seems the cabin fever has gotten to us all…

After watching every show on the DVR and playing every game in the house, I have approximately two hundred of these sweet little homemade football cards strewn from the front door to the back.

The PCP has learned to cook himself egg in a hole.  Desperate times (read: boredom) call for desperate measures.  (Thanks bestie A for the inspiration.)

And while the PCP was exploring culinary avenues, the baby decided to try his hand at being a barber.  I’m afraid this isn’t going to cut it.  Literally.  I could have cried a river when I got out of the shower (first one in two days people… don’t be thinking I’m luxuriating in the shower rather than watching these monsters) and saw all his sun-kissed locks on the kitchen floor.  And to think we have a family photo session on the books for next month.  I’m thinking that needs to get postponed.

Honey ran out for milk yesterday and came home with a pressure washer and a full suite of Nerf Vortex Blasters.  After arming the stir crazy littles, he promptly spent the rest of the day in the rain pressure washing the driveway with a cooler of beer.  God love the man.

Before I forget, I’m still looking for The Ryan Family – one of the winners in my Disney Giveaway.  Shoot me an email to claim your prize!

Happy Sunday, y’all!

  1. Oh Amanda, I feel your pain at seeing the locks on the floor!! I taught preschool for years and I did sympathize with many young moms who were heart broken over home barbers!:) And I do think I would postpone that photo until son 2's hair grows out. He is such a cutie…even with a home haircut!!

  2. Oh no, his hair was sooo cute but it will grow back and as a mother I guess we have all been there, but it is NOT fun when they cut it.

I love reading your blog but I never leave a comment. I often think, "man this mother has it together, what is wrong with me? I wonder if her house ever gets dirty like mine, or if she has one of those days that she just doesn't care?" LOL! We have been getting hammered with rain here in KY too and my 11 yr old is about to climb the walls…wait…maybe that is me. LOL! I'm sick of rain!!!

  3. We are in the Northern Part of Upstate SC, and I have considered building an ark. I feel so "Blah" and my kids all have cabin fever BADLY!!! A few minutes ago they decided to run up and down the stairs and around the wall between the kitchen and great room screaming. I have now resorted to a movie… and I won't admit to how much tv time they have had in the last week. (I think more rain is expected in these parts the next couple of days)

About the hair…. I would keep the photo shoot. Those will be fond memories one day!! -Leanne

  4. This rain is getting to us too! And while as I type the sun is trying to make its debut, I know it ain't gonna last. I too would have cried at the locks on the floor. I do have to say, at least he's a boy and can get away with the buzz cut for summer!

  5. So feel your pain. In Kennesaw here and every day I say I'm going to work in the yard and then here comes the rain. My daughter and I went running at 8:30 pm on Friday because my lord the rain had stopped. Of course it started again in the middle, drenched my phone and I had to wipe out everything to get it to work. Enough already!

  6. Its been raining here in NOLA for the last 3 days too…I want to scream…ENOUGH already!! The cabin fever is setting in and I have watched everything I can on TV. Where is the sun?

  7. Oh my goodness, Whit's poor hair!! Bless his heart (and mama's too)! That's one thing I escaped with my boys… and I hope I'm not jinxing myself but hopefully I'm in the clear since they're 10 & 8!

And don't I know just what you mean about this rain! We're "right" down the road from you in Madison, and all our 4th plans were ruined too! :-p

  8. How have I never made eggs in a hole? So simple and delish! Will make it for my daughter before she heads off to day camp tomorrow – thanks for the tip!

  9. It's been raining since May here in Vermont (not really exaggerating)! Everything is drenched and the lawn is "squishy!" Whit is adorable even with the haircut. Hang in there. It will grow back ;)

  10. I had to laugh. Sorry! It is NOT funny when they cut their hair. My gorgeous daughter did the same thing to herself, and I was devastated. She wore those elastic headbands for months, and I practically needed smelling salts over the whole thing. It makes for a great story, though. And he's adorable no matter what. I say take the picture anyway!

  11. My son did the same thing to his hair when he was little. I about had a heart attack and ask him "why he did it, he was not suppose to cut his hair" and he told me that I never mentioned that before. He is 36 now and a full head of hair….there is hope.

  12. Oh. my. goodness. That sweet, precious baby did NOT cut his own hair. Ouch! We are in Georgia, too, and I am downright tired of all the rain. I think it started the week before our VBS and that was the second week of June. Enough!

  13. My brother started his own barber shop only days before he was to appear on Romper Room for a week. It's been 48 years and I can still hear my mother's screams of dismay. He was a sight.

As for the wonderful football cards; might I suggest that you ask our mutual friend at HKL Designs to scan one of the cards
and then cut it out of vinyl and apply to a tote, tumbler, or t-shirt. I saw it done today and it was adorable.

  14. Oh my! Being stuck in the house can cause all sorts of stress. Thank God that hair grows back!

If only you lived closer I would bring over some wine…you deserve it!!! ;)
