On My Bedside {The Secret Keeper}

I did a beaucoup of reading during our Spring Break week!!!  I call myself a binge reader because I will go two or three months without picking up a book and then I will knock out five of them in a week.  My very favorite from the week was The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton.  You  may recall that she also wrote The House at Riverton, which I adored.

The Secret Keeper

Goodreads says:
During a party at the family farm in the English countryside, sixteen-year-old Laurel Nicolson has escaped to her childhood tree house and is dreaming of the future. She spies a stranger coming up the road and sees her mother speak to him. Before the afternoon is over, Laurel will witness a shocking crime that challenges everything she knows about her family and especially her mother, Dorothy.  Now, fifty years later, Laurel is a successful and well-regarded actress, living in London. She returns to the family farm for Dorothy’s ninetieth birthday and finds herself overwhelmed by questions she has not thought about for decades. From pre-WWII England through the Blitz, to the fifties and beyond, discover the secret history of three strangers from vastly different worlds—Dorothy, Vivien, and Jimmy—who meet by chance in wartime London and whose lives are forever entwined.  The Secret Keeper explores longings and dreams, the lengths people go to fulfill them, and the consequences they can have. It is a story of lovers, friends, dreamers, and schemers told—in Morton’s signature style—against a backdrop of events that changed the world.

I do relish a good historical fiction read.  Add to that an intriguing mystery and I’m one happy gal!!  This is an easy read and perfect for your beach bag this summer.

As always, do let me know what’s on your bedside!!  This is where I always get my best suggestions!

  1. That sounds so good! I'm still (re)reading through the Outlander series – right now I'm on Dragonfly in Amber. Need to pick up a new one, too.

  2. I love all of Kate Morton's books and I really enjoyed The Secret Keeper. Right now I am reading The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty. A very good read so far!!

  3. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only binge reader….I do the same thing :). Thanks for the recommendation. I love her books! I'm also in the middle of The Husband's Secret.

  4. I am anxiously awaiting Emily Giffin's new book, The One and Only, which comes out in May. Her books are easy reads and always inspire me to write!

  5. Just put it on the Kindle – thanks for the recommend!

    I just finished The Good Witch – very sweet and light, fun. I have a thing for Cozy Mysteries of late and have been enjoying a bunch of those. Started a cup cake shop one last night. These are great because they're one day reads that leave you with a smile and tingle to do crafts :P

    Loved the pics from your spring break – thanks for sharing!

  6. I haven't read any of her books yet, but plan to this summer. I enjoy novels by Dorothea Benton Frank, Emily Giffin and Mary Alice Monroe, just to name a few. (It's obvious that I like southern writers and southern settings.) They all make for good summer reads.

  7. Loved The Husband's Secret! I can relate to being a binge reader as you described yourself :).

  8. I am reading what is shockingly one of my favorite books of the year. It's called Selection. I think it's part of a series. It's Cinderella meets Hunger Games meets Bachelor and I can't put it down!!!!

  9. I LOVE biographies and am currently reading Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey by The Countess of Carnarvon. It gives a totally different perspective of the real castle and the original family that lived there. So far, so good!!
