Musings

We just had the best time with Mother and Daddy-O jetting in to town for the weekend.  We spent our Saturday doing what we do on most Saturdays – moving from one sporting event to the next.  Soccer, baseball, tennis… you name it.  John took the mound for the first time ever.  He was nervous to put himself out there like that, but we were super proud of him for doing it!IMG_8285

The baby continues to adore soccer.  This very well may be his last season of baseball, much to his daddy’s dismay.

We did make time to do a hibachi dinner.  I loved every second of seeing sweet CeeCee!

We introduced my parents to “walking tacos” (ie. dump all of your taco ingredients into a bag of fritos or doritos and call it dinner) and they were smitten.  I might have heard the quote “dessert in a jar and now dinner in a bag…what will they think of next?”.  Seriously, they are yummy and FUN for an easy dinner.

Saturday we cheered the Jackets on to a win against Miami.  And by cheer, I totally mean had a glass of wine with old sorority sisters from our table in the heated lounge.

Oh, and before hand we had so much fun making our way around a few tailgates, visiting with college friends and neighbors!

I mentioned a few weeks ago that we attended the first of what is sure to be many 40th birthday soirees over the next few years.  Last weekend we celebrated my old friend E’s big day.  Over the years I’ve become friends with his wife and love that we are now neighbors to boot!!

I accidently picked up the vanilla flavored greek yogurt last week and it’s SO yummy!!!  I had no idea that it came in anything other than plain.  Love it when that happens.  Oh, and I picked up the pumpkin granola at Trader Joes to go on top.  Add a pumpkin spice coffee and my mornings are perfectly fall-ish.

I’m still doing my PT exercises and icing my ankle twice a day.  I can’t say why it’s so hard to fit that in, but it just is.  I call this look “icing and driving”.

We are really trying hard to slow things down around here, say no to more things and purposefully make time to relax and enjoy each other.  That meant an after school jaunt to Chick-fil-a to redeem milkshake coupons on Monday…

An impromptu wine and cheese happy hour on the porch with Honey…

And skipping baseball practices to just play football in the back yard with your brother.

Over the last few days, that also meant just chilling at home some, rather than accepting every invitation for breakfast, lunch or to help out at school.  Not only did I get some of the nagging chores crossed of my list (ironing and pulling out fall clothes), but I also ate good, healthy lunches out on the porch.  By myself.  Ahhhhh…

I started catching up on Once Upon a Time this summer and was all ready when the new season started!!  It’s SO good.  I get so excited when I see all of my favorite shows popping up on Hulu.  Revenge, Vampire Diaries, and Reign are all back and SO good.  And I think the new Black-ish show is pretty cute.

This afternoon we are headed to the dentist and tennis and then I’m taking Whit to see Frozen on Ice with bestie M!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Excited?  Not one little bit.  :-)

xoxo

  1. We are so excited that Tech is unbeaten this season! Go Jackets. And yes, sometimes it is nice to just be at home and taking care of things that must be done. I have to get into my kitchen today and do some cleaning! Not looking forward to it but as I am having some ladies over tomorrow evening, cleaning is necessary! Hope that ankle is feeling better.

  2. Always love the musings posts! Fall is always so full of fun things to do and see, yet it is the season I lost want to cozy up at home. Yay for john taking the pitcher's mound – my firstborn LOVES to pitch because then he is in direct control of the game. Nowhere on the field he'd rather be! Glad y'all had a fun visit with Mother & Daddy-O, CeeCee is a living DOLL as always, hoping your ankle is on the way to permanent healing, and who can beat CFA milkshakes AND happy hour on the porch on a Monday?!

Enjoy your special night out with your sweet Whit! xo

  3. Ahhhh, life is good again….'cause when Dixie Delights ain't happy, ain't nobody happy! :)
You and Princess of Preppy Paige have perfected the simple cheese plate and soared it to new heights! CeeCee is as darling as ever and I sure hope she got her own Lilly pumpkin! Here's a toast to continued smooth sailing!

  4. Love your comments about skipping baseball and playing football with your brother. We skipped football practice last night, all 4 kids were bathed, fed and happily hanging out on the couch by 7 which never happens. We seem to go go go all the time, and it is important to just stop and enjoy each others company, even if you have to say no once in a while. But saying No to outside influences is just a Yes for your family :)

  5. Always love your musings. We too are excited for Tech. My brother, SIL, and most of my hubby's side of our bridal party all attended Ga Tech. When we aren't cheering on Baylor, Tech is our hometown school. Glad you took the time to slow down a bit. Sometimes it is just what is needed.

  6. My husband and I love to have little picnics together of wine, cheese and fruit! It is perfect! I don't say yes to everything at school either, otherwise it'd be a full time job! I do try to volunteer 1-2 days a month and of course I do all the field trips, parties and other special activities at school. :)

  7. I hope your ankle is feeling better. I am sure it is very frustrating having to keep up with all the PT and icing. I dread the day I decide to get my stupid bunion fixed… Great reminder to enjoy the company of your family – skipping baseball practices every now and then never hurt anyone! I hope you enjoyed Frozen on Ice!

  8. It is a small world! We were tailgating just to the left of that photo – against the parking deck – for the Miami game! (this is in front of AXO and ADPi, right?) I saw two sorority sisters I haven't seen in 20+ years in that area. Yesterday's game was certainly a bummer. ugh.
