Musings

It’s been forever since I’ve done a musings post!!  Here goes…

I absolutely adore Lilly’s linen beach pants.  I picked this pair up at the After Party sale and they are just perfection for fall…

On the background of another After Party score, I was kind of digging this fortune and felt so fortunate to give it a check, check, check, check on all accounts.  It had me thinking way deeper than normal over my egg roll at work.

Speaking of reflection, I have walked by a certain traditional cheerfully painted yellow house every day on my walk for years.  A month or so ago I noticed they put on a new front porch.  Then a week ago I noticed the porch had been torn off.  Yesterday the house was nearly gone, with the exception of the fireplace in what was once the den.  I guess the owners had put on a new porch to help sell it and then the new owners tore it off to knock the whole thing down.  It made me so sad to see the fireplace that probably had Christmas stockings and school photos hanging on it for forty some odd years standing there so tall and proud amidst the rubble.  So many homes in my neighborhood are being knocked down.  Some of them need it, and many of them could just use a little TLC.  This little yellow house always looked so happy to me.  I hated to see it go.

I’ve been running ragged between baseball W) and our first lacrosse season (J).  Some nights it’s straight to one from the other.  And sometimes that calls for a very bad for you pick-me-up at the QT.  Their vanilla cokes are the best.

Another early morning walk picture… a cotton candy sunrise.

I loooooove BBQ.  Like LOVE it.  I recently had Swallow at the Hollow at a function and could not even believe the mac and cheese.  How have I not known about this place?!?!

The baby had me in tears over his list of words with the glued sound “all”.  He’s southern through and through.

One of my fave things about fall is pumpkin everything.  Pumpkin coffee, pumpkin creamer, pumpkin waffles, and of course pumpkin bagels from Panera.  They are SO good.  I cut mine in half because I wasn’t even hungry when I popped in for one.  So I carried it home and ate half.  And then about ten minutes later I couldn’t stand it any longer and ate the other half.  Yeahhhhhh.

I love that these kids, at ages almost seven and almost ten, still love playing with empty boxes.   These were worth hours of entertainment!

Is it just me or is Star Wars popping up on everything these days? Don’t get me wrong, I love it.  But seriously, I’m buying all sorts of junk food I would normally never buy just because it’s Star Wars.  Chicken noodle soup, Cheez-Its, gummies, and now three bottles of creamer I don’t even need.  Yes, I bought all three.  Because I did eenie meenie miney moe and then threw up my hands and threw them all in the buggy.

IMG_4436

Speaking of eenie meenie miney moe, John taught us the latest little hand clapping game thingy that kids these days are using to pick who is “it”.  I can’t get it out of my head…  Down by the banks of the hanky pank bullfrogs jump from bank to bank.  Say eeps ipes oops opes chilly willy ding dong.  I pledge allegiance to the flag.  Michael Jackson makes me gag.  Coca-Cola burns my butt, now we’re talking seven up.  Seven up has no caffeine, now we’re talking Billy Dean.  Billy Dean is outta sight, now we’re talking dynamite.  Dynamite blew up the school, now we’re talking really cool.  Ten nine eight seven six five for three two one.  You’re IT!

Does anyone else have this running through their head?  Anyone?????  I’m the only one?  Somehow I figured.

xoxo

  1. Can’t say I have ever heard that hand clapping song…lol. But my kids definitely enjoy playing with boxes! I wondering if they will ever grow out of that. Looks like Elsa wants to get in on the fun. She is such a cutie! I need to get in to Panera to try that bagel! I am a huge pumpkin fan as well. In fact, that reminds me – I have to head over to Williams Sonoma for my annual purchase of their spiced pecan/pumpkin quick bread mix. A bit of a splurge but so worth it! Enjoy your week!

  2. haha my kids have been singing that all weekend. My daughter even taught it to her big brother. Although my daughter’s version is only the first two lines.

  3. I try really hard to fight the star wars snack stuff because most of it is junk food and I”m trying to get off the junk food and eat more “whole” stuff. However, over the summer, Jello had a kit with jello molds shaped like Darth Vader, C-3PO, R2, etc. and I bought it because I was thinking of actually using the molds to make pudding pops or little jello snacks my little guy or something else? Any ideas?
The way I keep myself from buying the snacks: I take a picture of it with my phone. haha.

Also, I am glad to know that sometimes that I’m not the only one that will eat the other half even if I am not hungry. ;)

  4. I want all the pumpkin things INCLUDING AND MOST ESPECIALLY the Panera bagels. We moved “back home” two years ago and left my beloved Panera and Target in “the city.” I miss them both.

  5. Loved this post! Thanks for the reminder about Panera! And the /all/ sound thing cracked me up! Reminded me of my son who yelled out yesterday, “Mom the washer is slap full!” Gotta love these sweet southern boys!

  6. I love BBQ. I seriously love it. We always try to find a new BBQ place to try, even when on vacation. Gotta put that place on my list for next time we’re in ATL (which will be next month on our way to Disney!). Star Wars is on everything! Do you know how many boxes of fruit snacks and cereal have been thrown in my buggy? Good news is, we have a stash of treats and breakfast for Disney and they’re appropriately themed. :)

  7. Dear Amanda,
Your post reminded me of this………….Do you remember the time that there was a house on fire one night in the neighborhood next to ours when y’all were little? We got Daddy-O to race us over there to watch………..everyone was there. And when I was recounting it the next day, I said the house burned “slap to the ground” and Daddy-O made great fun of me and said it only burned a little bit and was still standing! Love, Marme

  8. Swallow at the Hollow is our go to place for bday dinners for the guys in our family. Love it. Best mac and cheese! And they serve Greenwood’s pies – YUM!
