Prayers for Orlando

Like so many of you, I too have been praying for all affected by the horrific and senseless Orlando massacre last weekend.  It took some time to write this.  Not because I didn’t care, but rather because it is so hard to understand and so terrifying to think about.  Selfishly, I guarded my heart.

We don’t have cable, so the littles, thankfully, do not know about this latest attack on our country.  And while I don’t have any answers or solutions or really anything but prayers, I did want to share the one thing that has brought the tiniest bit of solace after so many of the other senseless tragedies our nation has faced since 9/11…

When you see all the helpers – the first responders, the blood donors, the guy on the street, the companies, the families, the volunteers – you remember that there IS hope and there IS good in this world and that LOVE IS STRONGER THAN HATE.  Love is love is love is love.

Orlando is a city near and dear to our heart, as you all likely know.  It’s a place we retreat to for magic and happiness and inspiration and family.  We have many friends in Orlando and, thankfully, all are safe.

I will continue to pray.  For the lives lost.  For all affected by the massacre.  For Orlando.  For the LGBT community.  For our country.  For our future.  We are not promised a perfect life on earth, but rather a perfect life in Heaven.  Even so, I pray my littles can go just a little longer without knowing such hatred and tragedy.

xoxo

  1. You are correct – there’s no way to make sense of it. My boys don’t know of it either, and I won’t be telling them about it.

“What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.” ― Mother Teresa

All we can do is love. ❤️

  2. So well said. I love Mr. Rogers, what a wonderful wise man he was. I too pray for the fine folks in Orlando and for all of our country. Love will somehow outdo the evil in our world, just as so natural for most of us we don’t understand why it doesn’t hurry up and win–but until that day we must continue to carry on.

Such a horrible tragedy and your post today was very well written.
It is so difficult protecting our children from exposure to all the tragedy around us. I will never forget 9/11 and being in my sons elementary coordinating a project with about 40 moms. We were all crying and no one wanted to go home. My then second grader gave me a toothless smile from the doorway as I was leaving and the teacher signaled me to come in and collect a hug.
My oldest in 6 th grade came off the school bus and collapsed in my arms in tears. They had saturated the students in every classroom with tvs. It is so important that parents are cautious in what their children are exposed to.

We continue to pray for everyone.

  4. I am but one voice in this nation of ours. I choose to use my voice to express, understanding, compassion and love and not to use it to spread hate. I wonder what voice we are using when we talk to our children, grandchildren, neighbors, friends and colleagues. I AM BUT ONE VOICE, won’t you join me. Thank you so much for what you wrote today. God bless you and your wonderful family.

  5. I would love to get rid of cable! The only thing we really watch are college sports and we just can’t figure out a way to watch them without cable. Most of the games are broadcast on the network/cable channels, so Netflix, Apple TV, etc. won’t work. Any advice on how you did it?!

    1. Yes please let us know how you can get away with no cable. We ALWAYS talk about getting rid of it!!! How does that work for you guys? Are your kids always asking for it?
Btw…. Love your blog. I’m a dvc member too so glad to have found it!!!

Btw…. Love your blog! We are also dvc members so love seeing your adventures!

  7. It breaks my heart that someone would have so much hate in them. I pray for the poor victims and their families. It’s also frightening to me to read that the gunman went to a Disney park in April and Disney springs as possible targets. I know they are great about security at the parks, but at Disney springs it can get so crowded and there are so many ways in and out.

  8. Absolutely heartbreaking! I just don’t understand the hate and evil we have in our world. I am so grateful that my kids are adults now. I can’t imagine trying to shield little ones from all this.
Not only the horrific loss of so many precious souls at the club, the additional loss of Christina Grimmie is difficult to understand.

Today my heart breaks again for the loss of the little 2 year old in the alligator attack. Losing a child is horrific anyway but in this scenario, the poor parents tried so hard to save him.

So many prayers and love sent to Orlando!
