Savannah has a new home town team that, in its inaugural season, has already captured the hearts of locals… Meet The Savannah Bananas!
We had hoped to go for Sister’s birthday, but the game was sold out! In fact, this is pretty commonplace for the Bananas! Get your tickets early. Oh, and speaking of the tickets, how darling are these?!
The team plays out of Historic Grayson Stadium, the old home of the Savannah Sand Gnats. College ball players from all over the South comprise the fun loving Savannah Bananas. The littles were thrilled to rub elbows with them before the game started!
Just inside, we met Split the mascot. He was hysterical – dancing, carrying people around, giving chest bumps and high fives.
Our very own Jay Bird was sought out of the crowd to throw out the first banana!!!!!! It was seriously the cutest thing ever!
The game was lively and laid back, with music, dancing, loads of “appealing” shenanigans, and every banana pun you can think of.
We shared the garbage can nachos. Y’all… they were SO good. I have a strange affinity for junk food so nachos loaded with hamburger meat, hot dogs, chili and cheese were right up my alley. The fact that they were legit served in a garbage can lid was the icing on the cake. Oh, and they sell bags of Oatmeal Scotchies too… mmmmm!
I was dying for one of my littles to get the frozen chocolate dipped banana for dessert, but sno cones prevailed.
At one point the players came into the stands and gave roses to a few lucky ladies. Of course we were thrilled Miss Priss was picked.
It was such a fun night out and very likely the start of a new tradition for our family!
- Purchase tickets online in advance. Will Call is very efficient and easy for picking up. (Something I usually dread.)
- Gates open an hour before the game. Go early for open seating!
- Merchandise can be purchased from the Banana Stand at Grayson Stadium during regular business hours, as well as during games.
Go Bananas, Go Go Bananas!
xoxo

How fun is that! Will definitely look into it next time we head down there.
Since we live in Dublin, we have thought about going when they have the Catholic church sponsored night. Would love to see Bishop Hartmayer throw out the first pitch. We love a good, fun ballgame and love munching on stadium food. Have a great weekend!
What a great idea!! It’s such a laid back, fun experience. I hope you get the chance to go!
Athens used to have a summer league team called the Athens Pirates and we loved going to the games when the boys were little. Sadly, they’re no longer around. We’ll have to check out the Bananas next time we’re down!
