It is so hard to believe that another Easter season is upon us! After opening John’s closet and having stuff tumble out on top of me a couple of weeks ago I decided it was time to embark on a mission of both decluttering and being very purposeful about anything I buy. After a little poking around on the internet, I decided to go with 40 Bags in 40 Days by Black House White Shutters.
The premise is that you pick one area of your home / life to declutter every day for 40 days. She provides you with a printable template to plan your attack, as well as great thought starters on which areas to tackle. I sat down before our trip and made my plan. I took out our spring break and I won’t finish exactly on Easter, but it will be close enough. If I find time to double up on any days, I will do that! Also, I tried to note which days were weekends because I knew that Honey would be around to help with some of the bigger projects like the basement, garage, attic and yard. I cut the printable down to fit in my notebook that never leaves my side so that my list will always be top of mind.
I am REALLY excited about this project and will keep y’all updated as I progress. The first thing on my list list is the pantry (some dates are out of order) and I am going to get going as soon as I hit the publish button!
I will also be helping the littles complete our “Today for Lent” cards for the fourth year in a row. Each one has a simple prayer, act of kindness and sacrifice and it has proven to be a wonderful, tangible way to bring Lent and Easter into our home every day.
You can find the free printable cards HERE >>> Today for Lent. The first pages include our cards, and the last page is blank should you like to make your own.
I hope that all of you have a wonderful Lenten season. I’d also love to know how you celebrate Lent!!

I have several friends who do this. I have been purging lately, so I may need to make a list of 40 and stick to it. Love the idea of the Lenten cards for the littles.
I’m on day 3 an it’s SO good!
I am also purging our house during Lent, but I don’t know that I’ll commit to 40 bags. It is definitely in order around here. I’m also giving up social media/internet in the evening. Like you mentioned a few years ago, we’re trying to GIVE more (and sacrifice ourselves more) instead of giving up token things. I love the Today for Lent cards! Thanks for sharing! xo
Yes, giving is the best. xo
Amanda – I love your blog! and I just went over to white house black shutters for the 40 bags in 40 days printable. What a great idea to get rid of clutter while we prepare ourselves during Lent. Thank you for all your hard work putting blog posts out day after day – they always give me a smile!!
You are SO welcome. I’m excited someone is joining me on this quest :-)
