Thinking of Las Vegas

It seems to happen too often these days … that we wake up to news of horrific evil by the hands of man or terrible devastation at the mercy of mother nature.  Like most of you I’m sure, my heart is heavy for Las Vegas.  There are no words to express such tragic, senseless loss of life.

I was last in Vegas for work two years ago and took the photo above.  Today had me thinking about the trip we took in 2004 to celebrate Honey’s dad’s 60th birthday.  We lost him just a few years later and I am still so thankful that we were able to do this.

Whit has no idea what happened overnight and time will soon tell if John learned about it at school.  Too often lately my only answer is to look for the helpers.  If you try hard enough, you can see good, light and love in even the darkest of days.

I hope that those of you with friends and family in Las Vegas have heard that they are safe.  <3

  1. Just so devastating. My boys both heard about it so we already had to have the discussion. I need to tell them the Mr. Rogers quote too. Maybe it will help to keep them from thinking the world is such a scary place…although lately it really is a scary place. Prayers for all those affected.

  2. I think we all appreciate this post.
Cup of Jo did the same. ?
Time to slow down and do what we can to improve someone’s day, work toward changing world however we can.

Sweet memory of LV you all have

  3. I was married in north las vegas in 1974 in a Lutheran church..It was about 103 when we said our I do’s memorial day at the sweet Lutheran Church..the minister was wonderful longtime parishoners our witnesses and we had the flowers from their memorial service..We dined at a lovely place down from the church..Not many people realize that many people work out of Las Vegas Nevada! Not in the gaming sector, many many churches and loving of the Lord People..The minister who married us is a delightful elder now and big shot in the Lutheran Church we have kept up with him…We loved North Las Vegas then and stayed one day and evening then to our tiny place in Broomfield Colorado and then to Aurora where our only child was born, we lived in the Denver area for 8 years then to the west where I am from the pacific northwest..Unfortunately what happened in Las Vegas could happen anywhere with mentally ill and people hell bent on murder and mayhem..I have been praying for the victims families and the many injured to be healed..We are living in times of a lot of danger and illnesses and madness but the Lord is the answer..I love your blog, keep it up..it is a real place of comfort and joy!

  4. Love your reminder to look for the helpers! My brother in law is a metro police officer who was there that night. He was shot and continued to pull people to safety. He is just one of so many heroes from that awful, tragic night. Your blog is one of my favorites and I look forward to your posts each day! Thank you for thinking of and praying for Vegas!
