The American Adventure at Epcot

Every time we go to Disney we discover something new.  On our last trip, we spent time – for the first time – exploring the American Adventure pavilion in Epcot.  You might be interested to know that this is the only pavilion in the World Showcase that does not go by it’s country name (in English)!

Inside the central rotunda, the Voices of Liberty perform daily.  Be sure to check the times guide and add this to your schedule!  For the best view, sit on the right hand side of the red circle.  They are excellent!  You will also find a nice, interactive museum right off of the main rotunda that is worth a visit as well.

Inside the theater, twelve statues embody the American ideals of Individualism, Innovation, Independence, Self-Reliance and more.  You really can’t help but feel pride in our country while in this exhibit.

With Benjamin Franklin and Mark Twain as your guides, audio-animatronics, film and music work together to tell the story of our young country – in half an hour.  You will be transported to pivotal events, including the landing of the Mayflower, the Boston Tea Party, the winter at Valley Forge, the penning of the Declaration of Independence, the Civil War, industrialization and the Great Depression.

I have also loved learning about the engineering behind this incredible theater.  Taking 5 years to complete, key moments in American history appear and disappear right in front of your eyes.   Over 24 computers are used to coordinate the show that includes 35 audio-animatronics characters, seven lifts and a “war wagon” housed under the stage.  This 175-ton steel framework contains ten different sets that slide into place horizontally on the war wagon and then are raised to stage level by hydraulic telescoping supports!  I would LOVE a peek at that one day.

  1. After our last visit, I heard that the behind-the-scenes Epcot tour allows you a look at the engineering behind this! As a result, that has moved to the top of our Disney Bucket List for our next trip!! Some people believe that getting a peek behind the proverbial curtain ruins the magic, but for our family, it makes it all the more amazing!!

    1. I completely agree that it makes it so much more amazing!! My boys aren’t old enough yet for the behind the scenes tours. I highly recommend Keys to the Kingdom for adults!!
