The Best Biscuits

Mother served the best biscuits when we were all home for Christmas.  We all gobbled them up, raved about them and insisted she share the recipe with us.

And here it was… Mary B’s Southern Made Biscuits  :-)  Why make when you can buy one that tastes homemade?!  Both of our Publix stores carry them in the freezer section.

Mother served hers with ham and they were soooo good.  I usually don’t have ham laying around so I’ve been putting them out with honey and any jam, jelly or butter I can scrounge up in the fridge or pantry.

While on the subject of ‘why make when you can buy’… my other favorite thing to buy that I used to make is Palmetto Cheese (pimento cheese).  It is at my Publix, but is much cheaper at Costco!

Let me know what YOU buy rather than make!

  1. I too used to make my own pimento cheese, and now buy Palmetto. The other thing that I used to make was homemade tzaziki…now I buy the Cedar’s brand. That, plus garlic naan, grilled chicken breast from the deli, and some veggies makes the best chicken pitas! The other thing that I do sometimes is buy the cooked bacon from the Whole Foods hot bar…it’s so lightweight, so it’s a great deal, and I can add bacon to sandwiches and salads during the week without making a mess of my kitchen.

    1. This sounds SO good. I want to create that exact meal. And I had NO clue that WF sold bacon. What a great idea!

  2. My Honey loves Palmetto cheese (I don’t do mayo, so…)! And, we’ve tried those biscuits before, although I make my own now. I love having a cheese biscuit. Or, butter and brown sugar – absolutely divine! xoxo

  3. I am with you on both the biscuits and the palmetto pimento cheese (Costco is my go to for it as well ❤️). You are the most southern of southern girls, so I would love to know suggested ways you like your pimento cheese. I love tea sandwiches , and have been known to also sneak it on ritz crackers straight from the fridge when making dinner and needing a quick nibble … but do you have suggestions ? The container from
Costco is huge and goes a long way – so I would love ideas on serving :)

    1. Yes, it is! We use it to make cheeseburgers, on crackers, with celery as a dip, on sandwiches. I’ve even made grilled cheese with it!!

  4. I love Sister Schubert’s yeast dinner rolls. They can be found in the freezer section and are delicious! There is no need to ever make homemade dinner rolls again if you have access to these!

I also like Costco’s rotisserie chicken soup from the deli section and jazz it up with some frozen cut vegetables and seasoning.

Last of all, my favorite dip is 1/2 Sabra hummus (Costco) and 1/2 Trader Joes black bean dip. Stir it together and microwave for 20 seconds or so. Wonderful dip for baby carrots or bell pepper strips!

    1. Oh yes. We love Sister S too! And her cinnamon rolls! So much better than the kind in the refrigerator can. I love your dip concoction! Oh, and will def pick up the rotisserie chicken soup. YUM!

  5. My father in law RAVES about these biscuits!! My mother in law is a cross between Martha Stewart and Ina Garten, so for her to give him store bought biscuits I know they have to be amazing. They don’t sell them were I shop but after seeing this post I need to search high and low for them! My in laws live 5 hrs from us but maybe they’ll bring me a bag next time they visit. :-)

    1. Pillsbury Grands Buttermilk style is just as good if not better than Mary B’s. I used to buy MB’s until they were out one day and bought the Pillsbury. Love them.

  6. Mary Bs can almost always be found in our freezer, also. Another good “why make when you can buy” is Geraldine’s Cheese Straws. Oh, my! They are wonderful!

  7. I used to buy Publix Spinach and Artichoke Dip and it was good. One day shopping in Walmart I spied a container and bought it, much better than Publix. I just add more Feta Cheese.

  8. I buy Rhodes brand frozen rolls. You let them rise and then bake them, so they aren’t a quick fix type of thing. But you can make simple cloverleaf rolls in a muffin tin and people think you are an amazing baker, or delicious garlic knots. The baked rolls freeze well too, so when I’m doing my holiday baking, I buy several round aluminum disposal cake pans, fill them with the frozen, dough, let them rise, then bake them off. After they cool I put them into large freezer bags, stack them up and freeze them. I pull them out at night to thaw for the next morning’s breakfast or to make little ham sandwiches.

  9. I have used Mary b’s as long as I can remember! Our fave is the buttermilk. Another Mary b’s product I love are the dumplings. They are delicious and couldn’t be easier to use. Tastes “old-fashioned” and are a family favorite.

  10. I use Mary Bs or Pillbury, whichever is on sale. I like either of those brands. Much easier than homemade when you are just feeding one or two people.
