Musings

I’ve been making weekly stops at the library.  I lost my login to my Goodreads account so I just wander around and look at spines and books on display and pick whatever strikes my fancy.  I know I’m old school, but I LOVE a library!

I know y’all don’t hear much from this kid any more but he finished up another season of summer travel lacrosse, has devoted all of his spare time to perfecting his Fortnite game and is staring down age THIRTEEN.  Oh, and he got his stitches out of his knee… compliments of Honey.  OY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They didn’t tell me until after the deed was done.

A friend introduced us to 18.21 Bitters and they are AMAZING!!  I tentatively took my first sip feeling sure that they would be disgusting but I was very pleasantly surprised.  If you’re in Atlanta, look for them at Ponce City Market.

Elsa has spent many summer days lounging at bestie M’s pool.  She got a summer haircut last week and looks like a lamb (she looks like a stray in this pic because she runs through the pool and then rolls in the pinestraw).  She also had her 3 year check up and still hasn’t broken 30 lbs, yet she’s tall enough to take anything she wants off the counter.

I adore these scalloped chargers at Williams Sonoma.  I really love the entire Aerin line.  I have had them in my cart for weeks but need to save every penny to go towards the bathrooms.  I think they would be beautiful with blue willow.

The fireflies have been lighting up our nights.  Whit and Elsa go out almost every evening to catch them.  This is the essence of summer, in my mind.

My sweet friend AW gave us a bag of home grown shishito peppers from her garden as a hostess gift.  Mother cooked them for me in a little olive oil, until blistered, and then we sprinkled with salt and a squeeze of lime.  I am 100% adding these to my garden next summer!  They were delicious.  And, only 1 in every 9 is hot!

At the risk of sounding really, really odd, Whit and I were looking through old pictures and found this one from years ago.  I’m not sure why we took it, but it documents his self-inflicted hair cut AND baby teeth.  What made it so funny was that he exclaimed “Look!!  Elsa has my same smile!!”  And so, can you guess what happened next…

… we checked it out. And she does!!!!!!!!!!  LOL.  (I apologize for the dirty mouth.  She is looking much nicer after her hair cut.)

I found this pic of Daddy-O and CeeCee passed out together at the Polynesian.  There’s tired and there’s Disney tired.

Have a great weekend, y’all!

  1. I love libraries, too… alas, I am the habitual offender with WAY too many late fines. It’s less expensive for me to buy anything that’s not new release from Amazon! Doesn’t it seem like the boys are growing at rapid pace?! It picks up speed, Mama, but the teen years are amazing – don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

I’m hesitant to try bitters, the plates are perfection!, Elsa is just too much!, chasing ‘lightning bugs’ is a precious childhood memory, those peppers – yum – I’ve never thought to blister peppers like that, the matching smiles, HA!, and that last picture is the epitome of a day well spent.

Love musings! Have a great week! xo

  2. Cannot…stop….laughing…at the pic of Whit’s smile and Elsa’s “smile”!! Such a great memory!

  3. Fun fact for you: I was thisclose to taking the GRE and doing an MLIS program online at USM so that I could go work as a librarian at the local library. I wanted to be the community relations librarian, planning all of the community library events, etc. and being the spokesperson, etc. My older sister’s first after school/summer job was as a page at the same local library I frequent now. When I was little, my mom would drop me off with my sister on Saturday mornings and leave me at the library while she did her grocery shopping and I would just sit in the corner of the library and read all day long until she came to get me. THe library staff didn’t mind either because I would just sit there quietly reading The Boxcar Children novels or surfing through the nonfiction books about Princess Diana and the royals and I didn’t make a peep! I wound up not doing the master’s program, though, because it would have added another $20K in debt to make the same or less money and it just didn’t make sense. So instead, I”m a member of the “Friends of the LIbrary” where I can still be a spokesperson ….. please tell me you know about the Hoopla App and Overdrive. Those are the greatest things EVER when it comes to the library!!!

I also love those chargers you picked out… so my mom has a few items of Blue Willow and I honestly wanted it back when we got married, but I wasn’t sure we would get any when I registered so I got a pattern that was more affordable (and I figured it would be used because it was affordable) so I wound up with the noritake bluish gray I have…. I told my mom I sort of want to trade out my wedding china for some Blue Willow and she said she wasn’t surprised. haha. So I’m kinda debating selling some of the plain white & platinum I have that I got from an estate sale (it’s mikasa I think) and trading it for a few blue willow pieces… but we will see… as you know, I’ve been trying to create a better display in my china hutch since re-painting it. My favorite color is cobalt/royal blue so I am all about anything BLUE!!! :)

and lastly — one of my favorite reasons to go camping is because of the fireflies– we don’t have them near our house because we have to have mosquito control come through our neighborhood 2-3 times a night (we sort of live in the middle of the swamp) so that pesticide kiils any other bugs too, unfortunately! But when we go camping, one of my favorite things to do is watch them light up the tree line! It’s so relaxing!

Love that pic of Whit with his hair debacle. haha.

and so Elsa likes swimming? I wish Maggie were the same. she loathes the pool.

  4. Fireflies, naps, sports, library books, swimming and a garden’s bounty…sounds like the perfect summer! ?

Throw in band and church camps and your darling musings bring back a lot of my own happy memories. My mother was the town librarian and I absolutely loved leisurely exploring the shelves and bringing home my finds in my bicycle basket. ?????

Thanks, Amanda. What a sweet way to start the day.

  5. As much as I love technology, I still love to hold the book in my hand and can get lost in a library.
I chuckled at the last picture of your dad and niece. We are expecting our first grandchild in October and our two sets of best friends have young grandchildren. They are always reminding us of how tired we will be after a few days with the grandchildren. I am looking forward to the tired though.

  6. I have the same chargers in my WS cart. I just can’t seem to push the button. I have collected dinnerware my entire life and I’m finally trying to convince myself to purge everything except my white plates and my seasonal dessert/salad plates (in addition to my Christmas and fall dishes). My reasoning is the charger will match the white plates and blue and white salad plates. ……. Maybe they’ll go 50% off so I won’t be able to resist. Pretty Please Williams Sonoma !
