Disney Cruise Line {Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure}

On our last Disney Cruise we finally got to do the Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure!  We booked this port adventure a few times previously, but excursions at Castaway are always hit or miss.  The weather and sea conditions have to be perfect for them to take place.

I only have a couple of pictures from the stingray experience because I was an active participant!  :-)  At check in you will receive your snorkel gear.  Then, the adventure starts at the Stingray Hut where you get a brief orientation.  It was filled with fun, educational information about the stingrays and was enjoyable.

Afterwards, you will be divided into small groups and assigned a station in the the shallow part of Stingray Lagoon.  This was our favorite part!!  Here, your guide holds a floating table and has a bucket of food.  Stingrays swim up onto the table and eat the food right there!!  You can pet them as much as you like when they swim by.

After the feeding session, you put on your snorkel gear and head out into the lagoon.  More than 60 rays – from small to GIANT – call Castaway Cay home.  You have about 30 minutes for this part of the experience, which was plenty.  This was a very quiet, still part of the ocean for snorkeling and would be appropriate even for beginners.  For the younger ones, you don’t have to snorkel.  You can just stay in the shallow waters and use the masks to look at the stingrays as they swim by.

Note that guests ages 5 through 16 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older, while in the water during this excursion. Guests ages 17 or older may participate alone.

Other Castaway Cay Favorites

My family really enjoyed this experience and I definitely recommend it to add some extra magic to your Castaway day!

  1. I’m curious if what I have heard is correct. Are children in swim diapers not allowed in the pools on cruises? If so, what age do they have to be to go in the pools? Thanks!

    1. That is true. Kids must be completely toilet trained to swim in the pools. This is what you will find on most cruise lines. There is no specified age.
