On My Bedside {Mara Dyer Trilogy}

I have had The Mara Dyer Trilogy by Michelle Hodkin on my list for a loooong time and finally read it over the course of our travels this summer.  I flew through the books and loved every single one!!

Mara cannot remember anything about the night her friends died. All she knows is what she’s been told: they went to an abandoned asylum, the building collapsed, and only Mara survived.

Two months later, Mara is eager to move forward with her life in a new town, but that’s easier said than done. A boy at school named Noah Shaw seems to know more about Mara’s tragic past than she does. And to make matters worse, Mara is beginning to see people and things that can’t possibly be there. Or can they?

When Mara goes searching for answers, she discovers a secret about herself that is most unbecoming. A secret that promises a future full of destruction, pain, love, evolution, and, ultimately, retribution.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

The first book,  The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, was my favorite!

Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.  It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.  There is.
She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.
She’s wrong.
After Mara survives the traumatizing accident at the old asylum, it makes sense that she has issues. She lost her best friend, her boyfriend, and her boyfriend’s sister, and as if that weren’t enough to cope with, her family moves to a new state in order to give her a fresh start. But that fresh start is quickly filled with hallucinations—or are they premonitions?—and then corpses, and the boundary between reality and nightmare is wavering. At school, there’s Noah, a devastatingly handsome charmer who seems determined to help Mara piece together what’s real, what’s imagined—and what’s very, very dangerous.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer

After the first book, I couldn’t wait to start The Evolution of Mara Dyer.  It was a fantastic sequel!

In this gripping sequel to The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, the truth evolves and choices prove deadly. What will become of Mara Dyer next?

The Retribution of Mara Dyer

The last book, The Retribution of Mara Dyer, was good but was my least favorite.  It was still 100% worth reading to finish up the series.

It had to end sometime, but Mara had no idea it would end like this. Experience the mind-blowing conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Mara Dyer trilogy.  Loyalties are betrayed, guilt and innocence tangle, and fate and chance collide in this shocking conclusion to Mara Dyer’s story.  Retribution has arrived.

This is a young adult series and, after reading it, I think it is appropriate for young teens.  Of course, my almost teen is on a reading ban so I WISH I had the issue of having to hold him back from reading something.

  1. Thanks for another great suggestion! I saved the Kristy Harvey books until my beach vacation and just loved them! Hope there are more coming! I also thought America’s First Daughter was fabulous, probably one of my favorites , and I real a lot of historical fiction. Always looking forward to see what is on your nightstand !
