On My Bedside {The Lying Game}

This summer, prior to my tv binge watching binge, I read The Lying Game by Ruth Ware.  I loved the setting, the characters and the fact that I really couldn’t figure it out.  I was a tiny bit disappointed when I found out what the big event hidden in their past was, but overall found the book easy to read with just the right amount of suspense.  This one isn’t a sleep with your eyes open kind of thriller, more like a beach-read thriller or a thriller-lite.  :-)

On a cool June morning, a woman is walking her dog in the idyllic coastal village of Salten, along a tidal estuary known as the Reach. Before she can stop him, the dog charges into the water to retrieve what first appears to be a wayward stick, but to her horror, turns out to be something much more sinister…

The next morning, three women in and around London—Fatima, Thea, and Isa—receive the text they had always hoped would never come, from the fourth in their formerly inseparable clique, Kate, that says only, “I need you.”

The four girls were best friends at Salten, a second-rate boarding school set near the cliffs of the English Channel. Each different in their own way, the four became inseparable and were notorious for playing the Lying Game, telling lies at every turn to both fellow boarders and faculty. But their little game had consequences, and as the four converge in present-day Salten, they realize their shared past was not as safely buried as they had once hoped…

Atmospheric, twisty, and with just the right amount of chill to keep you wrong-footed, The Lying Game is told in Ruth Ware’s signature suspenseful style, lending itself to becoming another unputdownable thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.

She’s the same author that wrote The Woman in Cabin 10 that I devoured last October.  I think I’m going to start her other one, In a Dark, Dark Wood, next!  What are y’all reading?  Any scary suggestions for Halloween reads?

  1. I just finished “Instructions for a Heat Wave” and I really enjoyed it… until the ending. I really thought, what? That’s it?! I would never recommend this book solely based on how disappointed I was in the lackluster ending.

    I’m currently reading Lost Memory of Skin. I also recently finished America’s First Daughter on your recommendation and I LOVED it. I’ll definitely read it again in the future.

    Happy Thursday!

  2. We seem to share the same taste in books and I cannot recommend “The Wife Between Us” enough! I think you would love it if you haven’t already read it. It was such a twist that I had to put it down for a minute to comprehend what I just read!

  3. This one was okay, but not my favorite….. I have a big ole list of recent good reads on my goodreads… have we connected on there yet?
