Celebrating 70 at Disney’s California Grill

Today is Mother’s 71st birthday and it made me realize that I never shared how we celebrated the last one! Before that, I want to wish her a very, very happy day. I so regret that I can’t be there to celebrate in person this year, but my mommy duties called. Of all the moms in the world, I know this one understands that. <3

When we were on our extended family Christmas trip to Walt Disney World, Sister and I managed to pull off a surprise 70th birthday dinner for my parents at California Grill at the Contemporary Resort!

Both celebrated their 70th birthday in 2018 and we knew we couldn’t let the year pass without marking the special occasion. Cousin Anne was even able to drive up from Tampa for the festivities. We loved having her with us SO much!

Via private elevator, ascend to the 15th floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, where you’ll discover exquisite panoramic views of the shimmering lagoon, Floridian woodland and Cinderella Castle. Inside, enjoy the vibrant sights and sounds of the lively onstage kitchen, where chefs combine global flavors in deliciously inventive new ways.

Californian cuisine celebrates fresh, seasonal ingredients and the international, melting-pot culture of the Golden State. Changing seasonally, the menu may include such specialties as handmade Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli, Atlantic Yellowfin Tuna and Oak-fired Choice Angus Filet of Beef.

Delight in mouthwatering sushi, as well as flavorful brick oven-fired flatbreads. Then, polish off a perfect meal with decadent desserts like Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake and Blueberry Cheesecake.

To complement their entrées, Guests 21 years of age and up can select from over 300 hand-picked wines—most of which are from California. Over 50 are available by the glass, and sommeliers are on hand to offer pairing suggestions.

California Grill is an exceptional signature dining experience. It is a wonderful place to mark a birthday, anniversary or special occasion during your Walt Disney World vacation. The restaurant does book solid at 180 days in advance so always plan accordingly.

We had such a wonderful time at dinner. These few snaps show that pretty perfectly. :-) Everyone loved their meal, the service and the atmosphere. This dinner definitely goes down in the “Disney” memory book.

While California Grill does offer some wonderful desserts that we have had occasion to try in the past, we retreated with our large group to our 3-bedroom 2-story grand villa for dessert and more festivities. We ended our night watching Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After fireworks show from our balconies.

It was a spectacular evening!
