Musings

Happy last day of August! For me, September 1 is the start of fall. Although it will be blazing hot here for six more weeks. Ha!

Whit paused baseball this season to try out golf and tennis. He’s relatively happy with that decision but still talks about baseball a lot so I have a feeling he will be back on the field come spring. What I can tell you is that the quality time these two have had to spend together is priceless.

They text me when they are coming by the house and I take Elsa out to see them.

On the tennis side of things, sometimes they even let me tag along. I’m actually terrible at it, but I’m trying to learn! I’ve always said that Honey must be the most patient human on earth, and now I see that Whit has that same incredible quality.

For the Atlantans, I picked up this adorable ATL sweater at Willow Park. I love the black and white because it works for the Falcons, Atlanta United, Georgia Tech and Georgia! It’s the only fall purchase I’ve made and the weather we’re having makes me feel like I won’t get to wear it until February.

Lest you think I’m always looking cute around town, I mostly run out on errands after a long sweaty walk or working all day. Except for this one day when I did make an effort since I had to go to John’s school, the grocery store, and three other stops. I came home and was unloading the dishwasher when I looked down to see this…

John asked me all week to hit Chick-fil-A after school to try the new mac & cheese. I pushed him off until Friday when we treated ourselves to making it to the end of the week with THIS! YUM – it’s good!!! Funny story… I pushed him out to Friday just because I didn’t want to get into the routine of going to a drive through after school every day. It didn’t occur to me that half of his school walks to Chick-fil-A on Friday afternoons. He never mentioned wanting to go this week OR wanting to NOT go with his mom. We’re in the drive through and he climbs in the back to “look for Whit’s golf clubs, ” which I thought strange. A few seconds later I look in the rear view mirror and he’s all slinked down in the back seat when it dawned on me. The drive through line circles around an entire wall of windows into the restaurant. He never said a word but I had a good quiet laugh inside.

Pure Country was on TV a couple of weeks ago and before I knew what happened two hours were gone. I haven’t seen or thought about this movie in at least a decade, but it is so, so good. Takes me right back to high school.

Did you know Fresh Market has $5 sushi on Wednesdays? I presume all of them do?? It’s good and my favorite hump day lunch when I can drag myself out to get it!

John recently had a disappointing incident where he almost missed out something big because he believed someone else’s opinion of him. This popped up on my Instagram the very night it happened and I sent it to him. There is a lot of truth and wisdom in these words and I figured one of you could use them as a reminder today too. <3

My two babies. Always. Forever. Now matter how big or furry.

I’ve mentioned it in passing a few times but Daddy-O fills a Starbucks card for me. I don’t go often and I don’t abuse it. But, once a week or so I treat myself to a coffee on him. It makes me so, so happy and reminds me that he loves me. Honestly, I leave the drive through with the BIGGEST smile on my face. It’s a really little thing, but something I’ve tucked away for down the road when my boys are grown. Maybe it won’t be Starbucks, but I’m sure there will be a little way that I can do something sweet for them just because.

Finally, we’ve survived our first month of school and are sliding into September like…. (Typhoon Lagoon June 2019 when I crushed and nearly drowned Whit)

Have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend!

  1. I believe Middle Tennessee must have been a test market area for the Mac N Cheese, because I tried it for the first time back in the spring. I didn’t realize it wasn’t everywhere until just recently when “everyone” started posting about it. We liked it, but it is hard to give up waffle fries for it.

  2. Love the Chick-fil-A story! Believe me it starts early….my little great nephew started first grade today and asked his Mom not to walk him to the school bus but to wave bye from the front porch.
