Behind the Seeds Tour in Epcot

Honey’s favorite Epcot attraction is the Living with the Land greenhouse boat ride. I’ve had the Behind the Seeds tour on my radar for a couple of years now, and the boys and I ended up giving it to Honey for Father’s Day. He was thrilled that we indulged his gardening interests and, at the end of the day, we all had a wonderful tour that I’d highly recommend!

Living with the Land

First things first, be sure to ride the Living with the Land attraction before your tour to get all of the great background information and experience the greenhouses from that perspective.

Behind the Seeds Tour

The bulk of the behind the scenes tour is spent learning about the innovative plant growing techniques, including hydroponics, used at Disney World.

We also loved learning about their pest control techniques. The most fascinating of which was the parasitoid wasp they use for biological pest control!

Whit loved visiting the fish farms and getting to feed them!

The huge fruits and vegetables and unusual crops from around the world were my favorites! We all loved trying cucumber grown and harvested from The Land just hours earlier.

The Land is home to fully functioning greenhouses and labs, and you will encounter many cast members going about their daily jobs here. It isn’t just put on for show. All of the things grown here eventually end up in Walt Disney World restaurants! The tissue culture lab was extremely interesting. You can even take home your very own souvenir plant grown right here from tissue culture. The offerings change daily and can be found at the kiosk located between Soarin and Living with the Land in The Land pavilion.

Near the end we played a guessing game around herbs. The kids on the tour loved it!

We wrapped up with family photos in front of one of the Mickey topiaries!

If you go…

  • There were kids as young as about 5 years old on our tour. Their family seemed to come in with a passion for gardening already and I thought all of the content was easy for them to understand and they had a great time.
  • The tour lasts about 1 hour and you will be on your feet the entire time.
  • The tour is offered multiple times a day between 10:30 and 4:30. While I absolutely do recommend advance reservations, this isn’t a tour that is hard to get.
  • The cost is reasonable by any tour standards, at $25 for adults and $20 for 9 and under.

My goal for every client trip is to balance rides with all of the other magical offerings at Disney World. I encourage my clients to stop and smell the roses every now and then… it shouldn’t always be a race to the next attraction. <3

  1. I did that behind the scenes tour of The Land many years ago and just LOVED it. I saw my first avocado growing on a tree right in front of The Land. So glad to see they are still offering the tour. I endorse your recommendation to take it – the hydroponics they grow are just amazing!
