On My Bedside {The Breakdown}

Coming on the heels of Behind Closed Doors, I was super excited to crack open the cover of The Breakdown, also by B. A. Paris. It has a great, engaging start, a rather boring middle, and then finishes up with an ending that I didn’t see coming. Overall, it is a good read and my review likely would have been much kinder had my expectations not been so high.

Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods. It was on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, and a woman was sitting inside―the woman who was killed. She’s been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It’s a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm, and she probably would have been hurt herself if she’d stopped. Not only that, her husband would be furious if he knew she’d broken her promise not to take that shortcut home.

But since then, she’s been forgetting every little thing. Where she left the car; if she took her pills; even the alarm code.

The only thing she can’t forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt.

And the silent calls she’s receiving, or the feeling that someone’s watching her…

If you can’t trust yourself, who can you trust?

I’m currently reading a Danielle Steel book Mother handed to me this past weekend. I have a few more already completed to share with you as well.

What’s on your bedside? Bonus points if it’s too good to put down! I need to set up a new wait list at the library.

  1. I can’t remember what I’ve already told you but…
    My Lovely Wife – definitely not for everyone :)
    The Flight Attendant
    A Nearly Normal Family
    Before She Knew Him
    One of Us is Lying
    Sometimes I Lie

  2. I just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and it was wonderful! It explores issues such as adult loneliness, trauma, social awkwardness and the choices one can make to move away from all of those things. Despite dealing with these weighty issues, the book is laugh-out-loud funny! I highly recommend it for one of your bedside table reads.

  3. Love B. A. Paris – I’ll have to check this one out! Since the first of the year I’ve finished Outlander, The Underground Railroad, The Glitch 👎🏼, The Awkward Age (pretty good) and I’m currently reading Southernmost – enjoying it; it’s reminiscent of a Dorothea Benton Frank novel set in South Carolina Lowcountry (but not as well written). Hoping I finish it tomorrow to bring my total for the month to 5! xo
