Around Atlanta {GEORGIA BOY at Southern Belle}

Honey secured an elusive dinner reservation at GEORGIA BOY to celebrate my birthday earlier this month! I’m still riding high from that amazing evening. Other than Victoria & Albert’s for his 40th, GEORGIA BOY was the most memorable and special dining experience we’ve ever had!

You are invited to Atlanta’s most exclusive dinner party. Georgia Boy is an intimate tasting menu experience created by Chef Joey Ward and hidden inside Southern Belle (Ward’s cocktail-forward casual restaurant). Georgia Boy welcomes four seatings of eight guests each evening for a theatrical showing of culinary precision and whimsy. The tasting menu explores Ward’s creative mind, introducing the cuisine of the South through his inventive, colorful lens. A talented team of several well-known names in the Atlanta culinary landscape include General Manager/Sommelier Cate Hatch, Chef de Cuisine Spencer Gomez, and Pastry Chef Billy Cole help make the magic come to life.

Our evening started in a small library with cocktails and a few of the dishes shown below. There were four couples at our seating. Our hosts explained just a little bit about how our evening would unfold, but didn’t give away too much. In that vein, stop reading now if you don’t want a spoiler!

Our small group moved into the GEORGIA BOY kitchen for the rest of the experience. All in all, you are treated to a stunning and delicious 16 course meal. I opted for the wine pairing, and Honey ordered a couple of cocktails off the menu. I highly recommend the wine pairing (maybe even just to split) as it we tried some phenomenal bottles with outrageous price tags over the course of the evening.

A speakeasy dinner party, where revamped Southern food is designed with zero food waste in mind…

Every plate that came out was not only beautiful, but whimsically named and wonderfully presented. You do need an adventurous palette to enjoy this sort of meal.

Chef Joey Ward loves Roald Dahl, and this one quote summed up our evening. Magic.

We did the chef’s tasting and two of the couples in our group went with the vegan tasting. The experience lasts 2-3 hours and is served in the style of a dinner party with guests seated at a communal table. If you’re looking for an incredible dining experience for a very special occasion, GEORGIA BOY is it!

PS. It goes without saying that my heart aches for the entire team at Georgia Boy and ALL of Atlanta’s small businesses that make our home town so special. We are doing our best to support the small businesses in our neighborhood by ordering out and shopping curbside when the need arises. Georgia Boy and a few of our other favorites have completely shuttered during this time. Honey and I talk daily about how much we look forward to joyfully returning to these restaurants and pray that they are all able to weather the storm. THANK YOU to all of the people on the frontline fighting the good fight while we sit at home. <3
