Around Atlanta {Newtown Dream Dog Park}

With John away at his confirmation retreat, I asked Whit for ideas on what we could do to celebrate my birthday. He took the question seriously, thinking it over for quite some time. He came back and said “I’ve got it! I know you’d love to take Elsa to a dog park for your birthday!” Ummmmm…. hmmmmmm… while I’m thinking “this child of mine doesn’t even know me” I say “OF COURSE that’s what I want to do!” We packed a picnic lunch and headed off to Newtown Dream – a dog park we’d scouted out during a lacrosse game a while back. (Mind like a steel trap on that one.)

It was a stunning day and the four of us did have a wonderful time…

Elsa found someone that looks the same, but different! She was infatuated with this one…

Whit found about forty “someones” that begged him for attention…

She was like a toddler. She’d go off for a few minutes to explore…

… and then find her people again. Some people have a “comfort dog”. We always laugh around here and say we have a “needs comfort dog.”

While the dog part wasn’t on my short list, heck my long list for that matter, it was a lovely afternoon with some of of my favorites. Whit’s smile was priceless.

These boys have taught me so much, and opened my eyes and heart to things I never would have considered without them. I have written here on the blog a few times when they were younger that “I spend my time trying to fill the days of the two little ones I was able to bring home with smiles, laughter, and unconditional love.” Just by being themselves, they have filled MY days with smiles, laughter, unconditional love, adventure, experiences and excitement that I never dreamed of before them. <3

  1. Be careful with dog parks. They are great fun, but also a breeding ground for worms and other yucky stuff. Not everyone takes great care of their pets like you do. :(

  2. I say the same about my dog all the time. We could get her a letter about being an emotional support dog but it’s her that doesn’t want to let us out of her site. I try to remember that expression that he’s a part of our world but we’re his whole world and gosh he sure does make our world sweeter. I do say he has helped us meet far more neighbors that don’t live on our immediate street than I could ever have imagined because he’s beloved by those we meet on walks.
