On My Bedside {The Girl Before}

I took a break from reading to watch some TV, which is pretty rare if you know me. I checked off Tiger King and Waco and was ready to return to books after those two.

The Girl Before by JP Delaney is a psychological thriller and a page turner in the sense that I kept reading because I couldn’t figure out where it was going. Some parts of the book are a bit racy and many are downright creepy. I strongly disliked one of the main women characters and felt really sorry for the other (stillborn child). In spite of the characters in the book, the house itself and architect who built it were SO unique that I couldn’t put it down.

Please make a list of every possession you consider essential to your life.

The request seems odd, even intrusive—and for the two women who answer, the consequences are devastating.

EMMA
Reeling from a traumatic break-in, Emma wants a new place to live. But none of the apartments she sees are affordable or feel safe. Until One Folgate Street. The house is an architectural masterpiece: a minimalist design of pale stone, plate glass, and soaring ceilings. But there are rules. The enigmatic architect who designed the house retains full control: no books, no throw pillows, no photos or clutter or personal effects of any kind. The space is intended to transform its occupant—and it does.

JANE
After a personal tragedy, Jane needs a fresh start. When she finds One Folgate Street she is instantly drawn to the space—and to its aloof but seductive creator. Moving in, Jane soon learns about the untimely death of the home’s previous tenant, a woman similar to Jane in age and appearance. As Jane tries to untangle truth from lies, she unwittingly follows the same patterns, makes the same choices, crosses paths with the same people, and experiences the same terror, as the girl before.

I’d love to know what’s on your bedside, in your pool bag and planned for your beach bag!

Elsa got her summer hair cut today and looks SO different. Stay tuned for an overload of puppy pics.

  1. I just finished your last recommendation America’s First Daughter. I could not put it down! Next I plan on reading something by Sally Hepworth. I’ve read The Things We Keep and The Secrets of Midwives, both by Sally, and loved them both.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing! My mom finally finished America’s First Daughter (I gave it to her a few years ago!) and said she loved it too.

  2. I just finished The Storyteller (Jodi Picoult) and loved it! But then, I’ve loved all of her books. This one somehow fell through the cracks!

    I’m currently reading Within Reach (Delinsky) and it’s fair… which is also how I feel about all of *her* books! 😀

    Happy Monday, friend! xo
