On My Bedside {The Alice Network}

I just finished up The Alice Network by Kate Quinn and loved every word on every page. It was emotional, suspenseful, perfectly tied to history and an overall winner in my mind. I loved the characters and felt sad to bid farewell to them in the end.

1947. In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She’s also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive. So when Charlie’s parents banish her to Europe to have her “little problem” taken care of, Charlie breaks free and heads to London, determined to find out what happened to the cousin she loves like a sister.

1915. A year into the Great War, Eve Gardiner burns to join the fight against the Germans and unexpectedly gets her chance when she’s recruited to work as a spy. Sent into enemy-occupied France, she’s trained by the mesmerizing Lili, code name Alice, the “queen of spies,” who manages a vast network of secret agents right under the enemy’s nose.

Thirty years later, haunted by the betrayal that ultimately tore apart the Alice Network, Eve spends her days drunk and secluded in her crumbling London house. That is until a young American barges in uttering a name Eve hasn’t heard in decades, and launches them both on a mission to find the truth . . . no matter where it leads.

I highly recommend this one if you haven’t already enjoyed it! I’ve moved on to The Giver of Stars. It took a while for me to get into but I am now pretty engaged. What’s on your bedside?

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed “The Alice Network” which I am highly recommending to my book club this month.

    On a different note, so happy that I recommended you to my daughter, Hollie, for planning the most wonderful trip to Disney for her and my 5 yr. old grand daughter, Tallulah!!! I am getting daily updates and they are having the most awesome, magical time this week at Disney!!! Thank YOU!!!

  2. I’m currently reading Majesty by Katharine McGee and The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah.
    I just finished the Vanishing Half and Outlawed. Both of those were good, but not all time favorites.
    I’m putting The Alice Network on my list!

  3. I just finished The Children’s Blizzard. It is based on a true story of a blizzard in Nebraska in 1888.

  4. Dear Amanda, You know I love novels set in that time frame! I must read it next. After “The Book of Eels” that I am now reading. DaddyO is bored to tears with my eel facts, but I find those eels very intriguing. Love, Marme
