Y’all know how much we love Disney, so it pains me to admit that that most Disney movies the past couple of years have fallen flat for us. For this reason, we didn’t even sit down to watch Encanto until Friday night. We were absolutely hooked, blown away and head over heels for it by the end of the first song!!!!!! It played all day Saturday and we watched it again in its entirely Sunday! I spent my work week alternating between the movie and the soundtrack.
It’s not just the characters and storyline that are so incredible. The movie features a narrative soundtrack that is absolutely ahhh-mazing. (Raise your hand if you sing “We don’t talk about Bruno…” all day in your head.) Original songs by Lin Manual Miranda are something any Hamilton fan can appreciate.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz). But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.
It’s my favorite Disney movie since Frozen. The next W pups just might be named Mirabel, Isabela and Luisa… :-) I reaaaaally hope they make it to the Disney parks soon.
